    Hello,
This is a strange question but I am interested in the paper masking behind the speaker grilles.

My palmrest has a small scratch but since I am OCD about my laptop (I know it’s sad but many of you are obsessive about them too  ;), so I bought a new one listed as a new part. It indeed looks perfect, not a single blemish, scratch on it and it even still has Dell’s protective covers but it is obviously a refurbished part from a lappy that someone spilled something on.

The left grill has a brownish tint (from Coke, coffee etc.) to it and it will impact alienfx once lit as it distorts the colors a bit…
If you’ve ever removed the palmrest you know that there is this two part paper cover with some transparent fabric glued to it that disperses light from the LEDs through the grills. I was thinking about removing the tinted one and replacing it with one from my original palmrest…

I think it is only glued on the edges with some transparent adhesive to the plastic net of the grills (there is also one plastic plug securing it but I could cut it off and then glue it back on). It seems the adhesive is not very strong, like the one on a sticky tape and I could use some non-aggressive glue to reattach it.
Has anyone tried it? I know some people had to tamper with this paper cover since it was touching speakers and causing vibrations and sound distortion. Maybe some of the Dell Reps here know the answer?

Do you think it’s feasible? I don’t want to replace the whole palmrest as the rest of it is in perfect condition and I could get another refurb part which is worse than this one.
Thanks. Your advice is much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Michal

I think it can be done without much issues. Haven't seen many people do it though. It's still better to try that 1st than replacing the entire palmrest again.
