hey everyone, figured out that whenever my gpu goes above 75C, my clock speeds drop till its gets cool. This is only when playing ghost recon that uses 100% gpu maxed out or when using furmark. Why is the throttle temp for this card so low at 75C? i thought maybe 85+ would cause throttling. Is this normal?

Did you use Fraps to check your fps? Did the frames per sec drop when it throttled at 75c? Are you using HWinfo32 to monitor the temps?
Are you sure it is the gpu that is throttling and not the cpu? If it is indeed the gpu then i dunno what the ATI/AMD threshold is for the 7970m but Nvidia cards are usually around 95-105c where it will throttle and will shut down over 105c.
If this is the cpu throttling, then make sure you have hwinfo32 running where you could see your 4 cpu bar go up and down and if the cpu throttles at 75c, you would see ur multiplier reduce and clock speeds reduced. 1 solution for this is to turn off intel speedstep in the bios to forced run the cpu to run at 100% all the time w/o throttling. Reason intel speedstep is on is for battery life but since this is a desktop replacement, it is ideal to turn it off to get max cpu power even on idle mode. -
Turning off SpeedStep in the bios is the last thing a person should do.
Run ThrottleStop 5.00 and see if BD PROCHOT is checked. This is a method that some laptops use so a hot GPU can send a signal to the CPU to throttle it.
Check the Log File option in ThrottleStop and post a log while testing with FurMark. Many throttling methods can be controlled once you know what is going on. You can copy and paste a log file to Pastebin.com
The drivers for the 7970M might not be quite ready for prime time. Last time I bought an ATi card it took the better part of a year for the guys writing the drivers to get most of the bugs fixed. -

I ran furmark and as soon as I hit 76c my clocks on the gpu only drop and frames drop also,I used afterburner to monitor my gpu clocks , if I lift the laptop and keep the temps below 76c, the clocks or frames never drop , it might be cause I'm on cats 12.7

I wouldn't expect anything else with those clocks...

What does that have to do with my clocks ? The point is its throttling at 75 which is way too low for a throttle point

Have you asked the other m17x r4 owners with 7970m if they are having the similar issue? -

not yet, but i just bought a CM storm sf 19 notebook cooler and now temps never go above 62c, so thats my fix for now, needed a cooler anyways.
