Hi there , how can i make the option ssd + hd on the website alienware?

If i cant ,can i make it at home without broke the warranty without no problem?
ex: call a ssd from newegg and install it myself...

My first time with alienware and i have no idea how they work for support and warranty!

Btw i talk too a sell representative and he said to me that they can't have a ssd for OS and a hd for data? it that truth? :?

    Thx for any response!

Tidoy, look around the signatures of the forum members. many of us have bought and installed our own SSD's. This is the preferred route as it is more economical to buy and install yourself.

As far as I know, putting a SSD will not void your warranty

The representative is wrong. If you got the HDD and mSATA boot drive, you will have the OS pre-installed on the boot drive.

Install a second SSD yourself (it's easy, there's an empty bay), and you will have a SSD for programs and a HDD for files. You can also use the boot drive for programs if need be. The default windows stuff will go there, but so what?

A mSATA boot drive is not as fast as a SATA III SSD, but it's still very quick and reliable. It's also a very cheap upgrade.

Given the existing options, you need to configure with the 750GB HDD from Dell and then add the SSD of your choice as your boot/OS drive. Easy installation. No problem with the warranty, but obviously the Dell warranty won't apply to the after-market SSD. That is the process used by many forum members with the R3/R4.

I think you're better to go with the mSATA boot drive than the SSD OS, but whatever floats your boat I guess. :)

Right. Except I think it'll end up being D:\ for Data and E:\ for Programs....

The advantage to that approach is you don't need to clean install the OS, because Dell installs it on the mSATA for you.

The disadvantage is of course, mSATA is marginally slower than an SSD... not by miles and miles, but slightly.

Which bay is mSATA in version R4? I have put my SSD at bay 0 where my old HDD was and put the HDD on the bay 1 where there was nothing. Is it ok that way?

    Sorry for invading your post.

mSATA doesn't go in a bay...It's a lot smaller, and more directly attaches.

The Bays can support SSD or HDD. You can have a total of 3 hard drives (without removing the DVD/Blu-Ray slot).... mSATA, Bay 0, Bay 1.
