Which GPU do you have? My suggestion is to reinstall the graphics drivers off the Dell website, I once ran into that issue with my 6990m, it was because I installed a newer version of the drivers then were supported by dell without installing over the top of the old drivers.

So i have to roll back to the original drivers for it to work?
I have a 7970m... and I did update the graphic drivers.
    So theres no fix?
Is my laptop on the max brightness at least? I cant even tell.

This method work before I Installed the new driver, so just try it..... hope it will work in your system....

Switch to intel HD GPU, you should be able to adjust the brightness alright.... Then switch it back into discrete graphic, hopefully your brightness setting not going into the max again....

I forget the driver version which this method can be work, but it work.....

This is the driver issue, nothing wrong with your system....

I used this method when I was on the 12.10 beta drivers and it worked quite well, although I eventually got sick of it and downgraded to latest working release for 6990m.
