    M17x r5 lcd replacement

    Ok I have had my unit since mid February and paid off. I have the 1600x900 and if I look at it from different angles I get the negative effect and I hate this. I owned a m17x r1 and I never had this issue.
    My question is I it possible to send it back and have them put a 1080p lcd or is this a side effect from the matt lcd there using. Wish I could install the gloss lcd from an r1.

    It's still under warranty. Call Alienware and ask them to replace it.

    Yes it is possible but it will probably be pretty costly. You can order the LCD yourself and provided you match up the part numbers you should be able to upgrade it yourself pretty easily. By all means phone them for a quote but you can probably pick up a 1080 LCD for around $150 (guestimating high)

    I think 1080p panels generally run around 90-120 bucks depending on what model and where you buy from. It's a little involved to do yourself, just in terms of screw count, and making sure you don't break any plastic clips, lose screws, etc, but if you can follow instructions well, you'll probably be ok. I imagine dell would want a good bit more than what you could do it yourself for in order for them to do it for you, but it never hurts to ask.

    Be aware though, that even the 1080p screens are going to give you some distortion at severe viewing angles as none of the ones that you can put in that (or most other) machines are IPS. The angles and overall quality should still be an improvement over the 900p panel though.

    I can do this easy my self but for some reason how to guides are lacking on this model and I would prefer to stay in warranty status.

    Dell won't replace the screen. After being transferred 3 times the manager said I would have to return it for a full refund and start a new work order. OMG I wish I could talk to an American these guys won't budge for such a simple request.

    I don't think that replacing the screen voids the warranty. Just note that should something go wrong with the screen, it (obviously) won't be covered under the laptop warranty. You should be able to find either a service manual, or at the very least a guide on here or somewhere similar on how to do it.
