So I got bored today since its taking dell forever to send my new m17x so I started to try to fix my r1 until the r2 arrives. For some reason , it shutsdown randomly when the dual 260s are on. When I am using the 9400m, it stays on but the temps of the 9400 are between 80 and 90 degrees. When i start it up with the dual cards, the temps are around 40 but by the time i try to start a game, it shuts off. Does anyone care have any idea what Could be the problem

those shutdowns are most probably caused by overheating, do you hear all of the fans spinning? Did you try to reflash the BIOS just in case?

Have you confirmed that your fans are working? I recently purchased a used M15x where the power connector for the GPU fan was not connected properly. It was basically just freely resting on the contacts, but not inserted. This was resulting in the GPU fan not working. The GPU temp would start at around 40c and quickly climb to 90c and higher even at idle. The seller had the laptop serviced prior to me purchasing it from him. The GPU was replaced and the tech clearly failed to properly connect the power connector. Once I connected it properly it has been smooth sailing ever since. Having just had your motherboard replaced it's quite possible your GPU fan may not be working or something else was not done properly during the process of putting your laptop back together.

It's already been stated, but was going say myself, and do agree, you probably have at least one fan not running or running below specs.

Well it has me completely stumped. All 3 fans at the bottom seem to be running and I upgraded the Bios to A04 from A02. Still the same problem. I do agree that something is overheating because it usually shuts down about 10 minutes after turning it on and then shuts down immediately when I turn it on unless I allow it to sit for about 10 minutes. Is it normal for the 9400 to be at 85 degrees when idle? I think that may be part of my problem.

did you remove the heatsink of the cpu to reapply thermal paste or did you remove the pad from the chipset? the temps are way too high for idle
