I am looking to upgrade my M17x when I get back from deployment and I am willing to put $1K-3k in new parts, what are some of your suggestions? I want my laptop to be what is should have been when I first bought her!

$3k?? Sell the r1 and get an 18x or maxed out R2 with RGB led and a pair of ssds. The R1 isn't worth $3k

Revision 1, i.e. the M17x that you have currently have. There have been two revisions (R2 and R3) that have come out since the laptop that you have (...or so that is what is suggested by your signature...).

I agree with DR650SE in that you should just buy a new laptop either an R3 (the newest M17x that there is) or a refurbished R2.

What exactly is the M18x? I will consider a new laptop or even go away from Alienware and find another high power laptop for less money..

M17x R2 is a dual GPU system with 1st Generation core I processor with an amazing screen. And when I say amazing I mean AMAZING. Colors are vibrant and bright. The M17x R3 Is a single GPU system, with a second generation Core-I CPU (Sandy Bridge). The M18x is a Dual GPU system with an 18in. screen with a second generation core-I cpu. Also check out the link in my sig (ordering advice) being in the military, you qualify for the EPP (Employee purchase program) which is an automatic 10% off. I'm in the Army reserves, so I've done a little research ;) Research both systems and see if you want to stick with Alienware. The are great systems and come with a great warranty. All up to you but do some research.

    M18x: Reduce the Online Population

A beast of a machine if you spec/upgrade it right. Up to dual 6790 in CrossFireX configuration and up to an i7 2920 Extreme processor makes it an amazing laptop...if you have the necessary cash for it though. ;)

There is also a sub-forum dedicated to the M18x if you're interested in learning more.

I think I would rather just keep what I have and simply upgrade it.. Make it as best that I can with new parts and a little help from this community..

No offense, but that would be stupid. You're upgrading out dated tech. Just because you throw some more ram and a ssd in your computer doesn't change the cpu and gpu speeds. It's not worth the money. Buy a new m17x R3 or m18x.

If you're willing to pay 1-3k on upgrades then it would be stupid to not just buy a m17x r3 or a m18x. Your m17x is old tech with a core2 duo and a old 9400m. You won't be able to do anything with today games. Upgrading that thing would be pointless and a waste of money.

All the new machines have i7 processors and way better gpus.
