What he said, I had the same issue with my R1 and one of the main reasons I returned it. That and the R2 was announced when I was still in my 21 day return window.

Drove me nuts because I couldn't move it from my desk without it dying.

Talking wont help..Document the damages and email them in point to point statement. Either they give what was agreed or you take them to court..Just dont break your head over the matter.

I have had to deal will some of these problems the last 3 years. A whole lot of talking does not help u much. Once you send mail with all the email exchanges and damage documentation, they cannot deny what you deserve.

Always ensure you get whatever they promise or state to you in the form of an email. Otherwise you will be led to a run around because of different idiots. Some will take the initiative, some act like they own the company.

Dont every regret or feel guilty maxing it out on their mistake. I have realised there a a lot of customers out there who are not aware of how much they are taken through the ride and end up with an abused machine.

The Dell warranty is for genuine product malfunction and the accidental care if for you. The warranty is not for the Dell Technician or whoever the ill skilled person is. They cant just come and put nicks and dents and make sound as part of the job or its covered by the warranty.

Fight for you right and your money intelligently. Dont rush. I have been issued 3 different model replacements since 3 years now for the original damage done by the dell technician. And they still dont learn their lesson. Each time they issued a brand new replacement, they will mess it up badly during the service. Currently I was issue an alienware M17x R2 in Nov. They were supposed to upgrade some parts after receiving the machine as the couldn configure during manufacture and my screen for dead pixel which I found on receiving the machine.

BUt they cheated me. They quietly installed a CCFL screen manufactured in 2008 and left . It was originally a RGBLED . Also they installed a BDROM drive insted of a BDBurner. Replaced the defective touchpad with a defective palmrest fitting. The same with the capacitive panel/touch panel.

I had to reseat the hinge screw because that guy did not tighten it well etc.
I received the machine in the end of November and they only did the service after 45days..and messed it up. I was extremely frustrated as I wanted to settle this 3 year old issue.

I wrote a neat email, attached all the correspondence and threated a lawsuit. They know if they are sued they will loose so much more. They will then come around asking how they can resolve. Recently they even offered me a Dell Precision 6500 with all the specs bumped up.

But I have put on hold the choice, since I told myself why should I let go the opportunity to get a Sandy Bridge. Anyway I look at it, when they replace you a machine for the error they caused, they should always give one that is still in production, not one which has EOL coming up.

ALL companies Similar to Dell do take customers for a ride. Its worse in countries like India. They talk down to you. They will even try to force a downgraded spec to you and give measly bumps in ram. They know customers in the States etc are well aware of their stunts because of consumer awareness.Dell makes more money by denying people in countries like Asia etc.
