    Hey all ye M17x gurus...

Just thought I'd ask - as I'm due to (hopefully) get one of these in the next month or so, was just wondering what people's opinions were of their M17x with 7970m GPU? Any performance issues that are really annoying? Any games it's not working with, that it should? Or are you actually really happy with your purchase?

    Thanks! :)

I'm very happy with my 7970M. :) Very happy as a matter of fact. It's pretty much carrying a beast anywhere you like! Absolutely amazing!

Guessing your ordering for the UK, just to note that the 7970m option is not part of that bundle offer (you won't get the automatic discount of £205 on the base model). Only options are the 660m and 680m. I think it works out cheaper to buy a gtx 680m in the bundle offer (£250 upgrade) compared to using the other link to get the ATI 7970m (it will be £170? option) and the bundle offer auto selects the 1080p screen and killer wireless too!

Yeah I noticed this - although I'm going to hang on and have a chat with a rep and see if there's anything else I can squeeze outta them for the price. :) Will let you know how I get on!

I was looking at the same deal, but really want the 7970m graphics as its so much faster than the others. So i think i am going to hold off just for now.

This is my first ATI card in very many years.
I am OK with it. I am really OK with the money I saved vs the nVidia.
I am not happy with being locked to Alienware/Dell for graphics driver updates.

I was very happy when nVidia went to their unified driver architecture a while back including mobile chips. My Dell xps system had not seen a driver update since launch and every subsequent nVidia update installed and worked without issue.

I cannot say that about this 7970M.

couldn't agree more. Have a google for amd enduro issues and read up on these before making the decision.

This isssue is still outstanding. The workaround Fn + F7 (switch off on-board GPU) is ok but still annoying. For me if I want to use the on-board speakers as opposed to my hdmi out receiver I need to Fn + F7 then reboot. Certainly not ideal.

If you are using an ssd as your boot drive its not so bad IMHO. My boot times are around 15 seconds so that's not a big deal to me at all.

I am really happy with the 7970m. No complaints really the thing is a beast.

No complaints at all, runs as expected.

One questions on my part which may be newbie but how do you add the specs of your rigs on the bottom of every post?
