How does that rank against 5870? Does it destroy them?

Dell/Alienware seems to be very slow at updating their website.

i missed though the 460m on the m15x has 1.5gb of memory wich make it better for games that makes heavy use of gpu memory like metro 2033 because it eliminate the memory bottleneck but in it self it's slower then the 5870

Crossfire 5870's will be a decent bit faster than the GTX 460m's. OC'ed Crossfire 4870's will even be faster . . . .

While they are better than the GTX 285m SLI, I don't know why Alienware hasn't announced the GTX 470m SLI yet? They have the parts, the laptops can support them electrically . . what gives?

this is the news that I've been waiting for (I caught wind of this months ago). Now all I want is the update for my bios to support them then I could purchase them later and install hassle free as the 5870's are undoubtedly faster atm!!!!

I also dont understand why Nvidia designed 460,470m with 192 bit of memory bus width compared to 256 in enthusiast GPUs.

hmmm they have it on the M17 title page. but under video card option when you build one it only has the 285 sli (but this is their recommended card) I would hazard a guess that someone messed up on the page and it is supposed to be the 460sli that is recommended. But with less then 2 months to CES i would wait on sandy and ATI.

I would also expect the R3 would be Sandy bridge Mobo as well.

That would point to a early 2011 relase I would think.

the 6XXX series will come to mobile before the 580M, if history is any indication. ATI have been doing much better getting their mobile cards out the door after the desktop card releases.

This is true, Granyte. What is up with Alienware being so far behind Clevo? I really, really want to stay with Alienware. But, I also don't want to be a fanboy and ignore a better product when I finally get around to buying. So, until then I'm keeping both fingers, toes and eyes crossed.

i agree i wish AW would pick up the pace and get a move on, i love the look so much better than a clevo but we cant ignore a better product for asthetic purposes when we need performance out of our machines

actualy alienware is in no way behind clevo

yes the 920xm is no competition for the 980x but i'm quite sure the 980x can't have 4 cores using turbo boost as high as the m17x

and 480 sli vs 5870 cfx hummmmmm i'm going for the 5870 any it's not like they lack power but at least they don't give 30 sec baterie life

@GreaseMonkey90 i saw it i don't recal it saying anything about it i just recal the guy having to make the guys there react because they would not them self

The GF110 used for the desktop GTX 580 wouldn't be used for a GTX 580M. A mobile GTX 580M would more likely use a GF104 like the GTX 470M.

Also an FYI, when you're looking at power consumption numbers for the desktop GTX 580, Nvidia has built monitoring hardware onto the card that throttles the card down when it detects specific stressing programs (like Futuremark) to prevent the card from reaching it's max power.

5870m's walk all over 460m's...This is old news... Only a good option if you need those CUDA cores... which 90% of people don't.

470's would be a different story though.
