So i've had my M17x R3 for over a year now, It really was my first "performance" laptop i've gamed on it, loved it, Done almost everything to it including slept on it, This laptop has gone through hell on a hand basket and survived until now..
My PSU died, It's dead, gone caput, dieded, The connector that connects to the laptop has severed, It's Kablooey gone, I've looked on the dell website for a new one and it keeps reccemending me the XPS 17 150Watt adapter, When i know for a fact that my m17xr3 can draw a hell of alot more then 150.
Here are my specs
6990M
1080p screen
2630QM
16GB DDr3 1600mhz (I ordered ram off pccasegear after purchasing the laptop, Was cheaper then buying from dell)
SSD (60GB OCZ Again PC casegear)
500GB HDD (Stock standard)
and the rest is stock.
Now yes, This laptop has gone through hell and the hardware still works, The plate that the media buttons sit on is starting to peel up, I bought my R3 because i knew it could go through hell, and now my Powersupply is dead, I've a choice of somehow finding a genuine powersupply or buying a new R4..
Keeping in mind that i've heavily used the battery on my R3 so it only lasts for about 3 quarters of the length of what it orginaly did, (about an hour and 50 minutes with intel IGP active)
the question is, Can i take my 6990M and put it in an R4 that was ordered ith the lowest possible gpu, Can i take my upgrades to it aswell, and is it worth it, Or does someone have a proper link that i can buy a new PSU for my R3 from dell.com.au

Some of the upgrades such as HDDs, SSDs, memory, WiFi card, can be transplanted from your R3 to an m18x. As far as getting a new PSU, you should get in contact with the Alienware reps here in the forums. They will hook you up with a 220w PSU. As far as the plate that covers the media buttons, you can either use some double sided tape and try to stick it back down or you can look for a replacement media control cover (that whole piece with the buttons and power button that sits above the keyboard). Look online, you should be able to get it for a real good price.

here is the link for the power supply on the Dell Canada site Dell - 240 - Watt 3 - Prong Additional AC Adapter with 6 ft Power Cord for Select Dell Alienware Laptops / Precision Mobile WorkStations : Laptop/Notebook Accessories | Dell Canada.

As for the PSU, you can get one from your local retailer, or send us an email at [email protected] and I'll do my best to hook you up.
