    Hi,

    As stated, may I know if anyone could help me getting .INF for me? I already stuck in Googgling them :(

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello everyone,

    I am a 3 years old M17x-R1 user and just recently upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 PRO.

    At first I did install Windows 8 using a setting which keep all the pre-existing drivers and personal data. Every went like charms but I did notice something - my GPU did not detected by Windows 8 as below screenshot;

    [IMG]

    The WEI also shown my GPU is the worst rating - which is around 2.7. It is clear that the system failed to detect my hardware.

    For your information, my current Nvidia driver for Windows 7 was 306.23 and I been using it without any single problem. So I tried to re-install the 306.23 driver but it said that the driver failed to be installed.

    I stucked and run out of idea. So I think its the best for me to clean install my Windows 8 PRO. And I did. After that, I try to install 306.23 and the very same problem occured! I now have an Alienware M17x-R1 with GTX280M SLi but my system won't recognize it.

    Next I directly log in to Microsoft Technical Support and have a live chat with them. The tecnician asked me to download the 257.38 from the Dell official website. And funny thing is, he was right. My system after the installation recognize the GPU and everything seems like will be okay after this issue.

    After that, I try to update my GPU to 306.23 and again, it failed to proceed to the installation!

    So right now, I am stucked with 3 years old GPU Driver that performed like crap.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hereby I am humbly requesting all the member to help me solve this issue. I am officially run of any idea.

    Do I am the only one that have this problem? :confused:

    Here is my actual problem! Just found it at Microsoft website @ WHCL Certified video adapter driver not carried over when upgraded to Windows 8

    Someone please kindly explain to me in simple English? I don't really fancy those terms.....

    View attachment 86482

    This is an error that pop-up during installation of 306.97

    Please help, I am desperate.

    For a non-WHQL driver, try:

    • cmd -> Run as Administrator
    • bcdedit /set {current} testsigning yes
    • Reboot

    Then install.

    Not sure if this is the same issue I had but it was similar in many ways. After upgrading to Win8 Pro on my M17x R3 the resolution was suddenly adjusted to 1280x768 (from 1920x1080) with no way to increase it. I noticed my Nvidia control was no longer accessible and I could not install a new video driver, as I thought this was the issue. To resolve my problem I had to download the newest Intel HD 3000 driver for intergrated graphics. Since the upgrade for some reason had either removed it or corrupted it no longer allowing me to show any Nvidia gpu installed.

    Anyway you could try that I suppose to see if that helps.. Go directly to the Intel site, make sure it's the Windows 8 driver for the Intel HD 2000 or 3000 whichever one you have.

    Usually, I'm very helpful. But after being asked for the source for any info I give out, and I give that away too, and I'm asked nothing about the info but more and more about it's source, well then not so much. Go SEARCH for yourself if it means so much to you. Google can help too!

    you can also try laptop2go.com drivers and see if they work. Not sure if they will fix your specific issue though.

    Tried, not working.

    Excuse me, I tried but its hard since you don't provide any keyword to search, hence no exact result as your post was found.

    Is it the same as this website provided @ Updated: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8 | LaslowNET ?

    Yes. We have the same problem it seems.

    Thank you very much! I am currently using back old Windows 7 and will be reverting to Windows 8 in next few days. I will be posting the result once I done that.

    Also in advance, your provided solution is permanent of I should execute the step every time I wish to update my GPU?

    Once you execute that, Windows will always boot into test mode, allowing installation of unsigned drivers, until you re-run the command with 'no' instead of 'yes'. Also note, this will only take effect (either way) after restart.

    I too have an M17x-R1, but I have the dual GTX260M cards. After installing 257.38 I was able to get the video cards to recognize and give me the tray icon to switch out of SLI to the onboard card. However when I do that it causes the wireless to completely stop working. Even re-reinstalling the broadcom drivers doesn't bring it back. Any ideas why these nVidia drivers would cause this?

    I'm going to try that tonight, along with the modified inf. I'm just trying to figure out why the dell-supplied video drivers knock out my wireless.

    Okay, I did the CLI method Prasad posted, downloaded the driver & inf from LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers unzipped the driver, replaced the inf from the zip with the modified one, installed, rebooted, enabled SLI, rebooted again and... dead wireless.

    Reboot, still no wireless. Disable SLI, reboot... Wireless. So I guess I just have a spare unused video card now.

    IRQ of card one is -1
    IRQ of card two is -2
    IRQ of wireless is 22

    Shadoweb, did you install the Dell chipset driver?
    If you did, uninstall the nVIDIA ethernet driver only and see if you still have wireless issues after a reboot.

    I did. I uninstalled the ethernet driver, re-enabled SLI, rebooted and... I'm on the laptop typing this. :)

    Now just need to find the Coprocessor driver, that's the only thing left that is messed up in device manager.

    Coprocessor is part of the chipset driver. If you decide to install the Dell chipset driver for the M17x make sure to deselect the Ethernet driver in order to avoid wifi connectivity issues.
    Let Windows install the default driver which works just fine.

    Got the same problem. Uploaded inf file for 310.33 if anyone needs it, (nvac.inf).
    I still have no wifi, got everything installed, no unknown devices on device manager.
    Internet only works through cable.

    edit: the wifi failed once I installed the nvidia display drivers, before that, it was working just fine.

    Trying to instal this driver (331.65) since the upgrade from W8 to W8.1 wiped my last Nvidia drivers (310.90).

    I already extracted the new driver files. But have no INF file.

    I still need a mod file right?

    Already disabled Driver Signature Enforcement

    What's next fellas?

    Not sure what "Game Ready Driver" means.. Maybe no modding needed? If so, I can just install, reboot, re-enable signature and reboot again?

    As for your guide,
    I have W8.1 64bit with GTX280's so I will be editing this line correct?:
    NVIDIA_DEV.0618.02A2.1028% = Section036, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0618&SUBSYS_02A21028

    Your example/refference provides this:
    NVIDIA_DEV.0618.02A2.1028% = Section033, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0618&SUBSYS_02A21028

    Notice different section? Does this matter?

    If that doesnt matter, my line will look like this correct?:
    NVIDIA_DEV.060A.02A1.1028% = Section036, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0618&SUBSYS_02A21028
    or
    NVIDIA_DEV.0618.02A2.1028% = Section036, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_060A&SUBSYS_02A11028

    Thanks for replying btw :hi2:

    What I did in order to fix new drivers in my R1 was to just download the Dell drivers for such card, copy the needed lines from the dell drivers .inf into the new driver .inf (section 6.3 = 8.1 afaik), disable signature drivers and install.

    Here is an example of the lines that need to be copy/added to the .inf:

    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.03% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_048F1028
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.04% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_04901028
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.05% = Section060, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_04BA1028
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.06% = Section060, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A21028

    ---------------------AND-----------------------

    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.03 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.04 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M "
    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.05 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M "
    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.06 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M "

    For each GPU (560m in this case) you will have to add those two lines in their respective section. The ID that you are looking in the first part can be obtained from Device Manager, Display adapters, Details, Hardware ID, also, the name of the .inf might not be the same so keep that in mind.
