Does anyone have the part numbers for the primary gpu fan, the secondary gpu fan, and the processor fan? I believe I am going to have to replace one of these because i hard a grinding type noise. And im assuming there are only 3 fans in the laptop or is there possibly one more somewhere? And from what I have read, the processor fan can be changed by just opening up the bottom of the laptop, but do the gpu's require the keyboard taken off, and then the actual gpu's taken out, and then you will be able to remove the gpu fan's from there?

The complete tear down manuals are available on Dells site for free

I believe all three fans can be accessed from the bottom.

    Alienware: Online Documentation

    the CPU fan is U012M

The Left GPU fan is F603N

Ok thanks, I had thought those were the 2 part numbers for those. But they also look almost identical to me so could they be the same physical fan? Also, I don't understand why they would make you take everything out to get to the bottom where the fan is. I am still wondering if you are able to take those panels off on the sides on the bottom and just get access through there. I guess it is unlikely though because even the Dell service manual's directions for removing the GPU fan makes you take out everything first.

Is Dell still selling GTX 260m's with fan/heatsink/bridge? I'd love to get a second to get a SLI config going.

Give Dell a buzz chiefs and see how you go otherwise check ebay or over here on the forum as there may be some users who upgraded and have the old 260 lying around still.

    Cheers. :)

Hey theres cheifs. Which side of the notebook is the grinding sound coming from? You should be able to tell if its left, right or middle CPU fan.
Also yeh the CPU fan in the middle is the easiest to take out and change. Just remove the battery and then unscrew to screws for the bottom grill panel then walla you have access to the CPU fan.

The 2 side GPU fans are also quite easy to gain access to however you have to remove 2 long screws on the underside of the notebook where it saids P That holds the power Alienhead touchstrip buttons panel in place. Once that is out you flip the notebook over and then pry up the power strip bar slowly and carefully. There is a small ribbon cable you will have to watch out for and unclip towards the left before you can completely remove it.

Then unscrew the keyboard screws and take out the keyboard. Again there are 2 small ribbon cables on the underside of the keyboard. So again unclip them. Then you will have access to the 2 GPUs on either side.

Unscrew the black cover panels over each GPU to gain access to the GPUs. Then unscrew the 2 screws on each GPU to release the GPU from the board. Life slightly up and you can now release the GPUs. Also watch out for the SLi or Crossfire Cable. That will have to be removed as well.

Then you have access to the GPU fans. The bottom base grill be can't and won't allow you to gain easy access to the GPU fans unfortunately as the bottom base is a complete one piece housing. In other words it is one massive piece which has no openings or other access to. I got mine changed last time and the entire notebook had to be ripped and stripped to pieces every individual part.

    Cheers. :)

PS/ If you still have warranty just give Dell a buzz and they will send out 3 new fans and change them for you. It will take less than 10 mins to change all 3 of them.

    Cheers. :)
