Sorry I haven't been on lately. I tore my power cable by accident and I'm waiting on a new one.

Ichime, why the 1866 ram when the R2 only supports 1333?

I'm wondering about the single 580m installation procedures... driver and bios wise ?

    thank you

I believe somewhere in the thread ichme stated that the single 580m installs and works properly with no mods

I'm hoping for XMP implementation, but that seems real unlikely. At least I wouldn't be inclined to upgrade memory IF I were to get a new system. I actually gave my old setup (8gb Kingston HyperX) to my dad's computer and got these sets to replace them.

Speaking of replacements, I might be giving this 580M setup the axe soon to raise funds to test some of the newer GPUs...

Hey ichme. How much would you sell both of the 580m's for? I would be interested in buying them.

You'll be the first to know when I decide to sell them.

I'm still waiting on that power cable/strip. Hopefully it will be here today or by next week so I can do some more testing.

Can anyone contact the wiz and see if there's any progress. I'm hesitant on doing the 6990/580m upgrade. I want the full potential and with our 240 Watt psu I don't think we can archive the full potential.

Can you confirm the loss of brightness? I have since removed my battery as after I added another 5870 gpu and upgraded to a 920xm cpu it wont even boot up without being plugged in. So battery charging isn't an issue with me. If you still have brightness control I will likely follow your set up and ground out the ID wire.

I am salivating over the prospect of 580 SLI.......I am glad I waited so long for the PSU issue to resolve itself and not jumping on the 6k series ATI cards right away.

Is the original power pack can handle 2x 580sli if no OC? Anyway great find of 580sli on R2.

I believe that a single 580 M draws 190 W? At least that seems to be what is implied in the description of the attempted SLI configuration with the other 580 M "just sitting there".

    Factory R2 PSU 240 W?

So no, maybe not, although those with dual 6990's say they have gotten away with them undervolted and no unlocked multipliers or OC on CPU etc.

    Still awaiting M18x PSU magic.

Yeah this is the very reason why I have witheld the urge to purchase these cards and the M18x PSU, because help and information doesn't seem to be forthcoming and a proper BIOS may or may not ever be released. Although I really like the RGB screen I have actually begun looking at slightly used M18x's in 580 SLI configuration, this mod just seems to adventurous and potentially costly for my taste.

I used the 275.93 modded drivers from laptopvideo2go... and it worked.

But my temps are kind of high : what do you guys think : i hit above 90' C with skyrim or Furemark... anf I find that very very high....

As for fan management, I use Hwinfo64 and even a 100% fan speedm temps are high...

so you just connected the shinny cables inside black cable of M18X PSU with the shinny cables inside green cable of M18X PSU and it worked? What about the second black cable and second green cable? You connected them too or you just cut and left them like that?

Thus it works only without battery? how is that?

Yup, 5870 heatsinks no more... only ones adapted to the laptop / mother board.

Temps : look at beginning of topic.

As for me: i reach 90-100 C on furmark which is too much...

Crysis 2 running @ extreme setting in Full HD with Dx11 @ 30 FPS. Improved textures not on.

does anyone else think that the chance of getting a new modified bios is died since there hasn't been a responce on bios-mod since july last year.

Also what is the major issue that everyone is having with running 580m in sli is it that there is just not enough power with the 240w power adaptor?

A buddy of mine thinks he can re-invent the cooling system for the r2 in a similar way as the new liquid cooling system for the m18x. We are going to work on that over the summer and as soon as he gets me the designs I'll make a thread and if there is enough interest we will do a kickstarter and try and mass produce them. He is taking into consideration the newer cards with larger dies. I have all the parts we need to experiment but if anyone is knowledgeable on this subject we could use the help. I'll try and get him to join the forum so we can post updates.

Dangit. My sli cable came in today (Thanks ichime!) and with cards undervolted with no oc on anything it still shorts out my poor 240w power adapter. Oh well I guess. I'll just use 1 of them for the time being while I research this id cable madness
