You guys make me laugh. You want to talk about grammar... Do you ever listen to the news? Channel 9 reporters make so many major mistakes. How about major US blogs most written by Americans which have a mistake per sentence.

I am sure the Indians that go to school to learn English probably make less mistakes than us.

You must have super indians.. not that I was referring to indians specifically anyway =.='

The three I've spoken to have spoken well, but ocassionaly they have made mistakes, if you can call using litertal use of words mistakes.

That's the information that I got. I don't know how accurate it is. He also didn't say it's not going to be available tomorrow just that he has been told that it should be available before the 7th.

    I reckon that's a sufficient amount of a**-covering!

EDIT: Guess I can't say that

Ok - just as an amusing thing to ponder:

If the Nvidia DX11 chips show up before the 5870's would folks still wait for the 5870's? Curious because I am wondering if folks would take whatever comes first.

No word on USB 3 either which is a shame.

USB 3.0 is hardly a big deal. I personally couldn't care less about it. Maybe in 2 or 3 years I will, but certainly not any time soon.

I hope that May 7th estimate is correct, I want to get my hands on a pair of MR5870's ASAP.

There doesn't seem to be that many ATI/Nvidia "fanboys" here, some people prefer one but will take whatever is better at the time. I for one will take Nvidia if performance was equal since a fair amount of games are designed around their cards. That being said I'm looking to snag some 5870XF goodness since I don't have a lot of faith in the 480m based on the disappointing desktop version performance, but this is merely a preference and judgement call.

I'm confused. Mandrake are you testing dual 5870's? or just one? Because it would be strange that they would sell m17x's with single a 5870 but are releasing a bios that doesn't support it?

I agree. If we don't see the 5870CF within a week or two, I doubt we'll ever see them. The next CF/SLI for M17x will probably come out towards the end of the year. :(

I personally don't care. I'll go with which ever is more powerful at the time and of course does not cause DPC latency issues like the R1. I don't have a particular preference between ATI or Nvidia.

I already installed it. Had some issues with integrated graphics turning back on even though I turned it back off after the update, and the dedicated 280Ms disappearing for a few boots before the system finding them again, but I'm up and running on it. No difference that I can see, then again the changes in the update notes weren't even anything I'd ever heard of a problem with.

You guys are trying to guess on something that has no sense whatsoever. The CF 5870 will come out but it seems there is some kind of shortage on cards and maybe some heat issue or driver issue to resolve before shipping them out.

The next SLI config will be with 480M which should be around September or maybe sooner who knows!!! We know the cards are coming in competing laptops in June.

AW has always been at the edge of technology and they will certainly not miss the opportunity to get the 5870 in crossfire.

This is A04 for the R1 (I think). The checksum matched and it let me install it. Believe me, I was skeptical too. It's straight off the Dell site and I even entered my service tag to make sure it still came up in the supported updates. How do they differentiate between the R1 and R2 for updates?

No mention of R1 or R2. Regardless, it's running fine for me on an R1. Maybe R2 shouldn't install it? Haha

Well, I would expect them to at least have the support for the 5870. AW sales those laptops as upgradeable in the future. It would be pure lying if they did not include support for a GPU that is just 9 months into the life cycle of a product.

Most of us prefer not to wait 6-8months.

there's no heat issue. ATi rates the 5870's 5W less in TDP than the 4870s

AW's ususally on the trailing edge acutally. How long have other OEM's had a 5870 in their laptops? They've had a 5870 configurable in the M17x for less than 2 weeks and already eurocom has announced support and pre-orders for the 480GTX in their top of the line laptop, which has a bigger screen, more hard drives, and more ram space than the M17X.

so.. anyone know if the 5870s are 128bit? i know scook9 said it should perform almost like desktop 4870x2 but doesn't the 4870x2 perform better than the 5770?

The bus width is 128bit yes. It uses gddr5 ram however so it will run faster and as such have higher bandwidth than the gddr3 4870
