I am looking for some RAM to buy and stumbled accross some Kingston HyperX Notebook memory 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL7 SODIMM (Kit of 2)Intel XMP Latency Timing 7-7-7-20.

    4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL7 SODIMM (Kit of 2) XMP 7-7-7-20 1.5v $195.00
    4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM (Kit of 2) XMP 9-9-9-27 1.5v $198.00

I currently have 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC 9-9-9-27, Would I notice a speed increase with the 4GB DDR3 Non-ECC CL7 SODIMM (Kit of 2) Inel XMP 7-7-7-20? its 1600MHz over my 1333MHz and correct me if Im wrong, but it has a faster Latency Timing which is 7-7-7-20 as to where my current configuration has 9-9-9-27. and its only $195.00. Which I dont know why the better RAM with lower latency is $3 cheaper than the other slower RAM that has a higher latency.

i would had thought it would be quicker, give it a go :) you might even get better times and it will only run @ 1333mhz and this sometimes means the timing are better again

it will only run at 1333MHz? But it says 1600MHz. And i thought 7-7-7-20 was better than 9-9-9-27? I guess its not for sale until April 22nd but if it actually runs at the speeds it says for only $195 thats a good deal. Not sure why the crapier 1600MHz 9-9-9-27 is more expensive though at $198.00

What he is trying to say is the M17x can only run ram at a max of 1333, so your 1600 would downclock to 1333, but at the same time those 7-7-7-20 timings would tighten up as well to like 5-5-5-18 or something.

To top it off that requires XMP support for the better timings. The M17x does not support it so you will only get the Jedec standard for memory timings.

Exactly. It will run at the same speed and timings as your current memory.

Not worth the money for the R2.

I thought the most impressive feature of i7 CPUs was the removal of the front side bus and therefore the scalability to support mhz ram that doesn't even exist yet? or is it the motherboard that will limit the memory to 1333mhz?

The processor is what limits it.

Ya,Core i7: first true native quad core processor with all for cores on a single die and no Front Side Bus were huge improvements over other processor technology
