I have an Alienware M17x-R2. I updated to the newest A10 Bios, but now almost always when I turn on from the computer being completely off, it hangs and wont even go through the BIOS in which I have to unplug it and then pop out the battery and back in. Then after that it turns on fine. But I have to do that everytime. Is there a way to fix this?

Try to do a full power drain:

    -turn off your laptop
-remove the system battery and power cord
-remove the back plate (held by the two screws normally hidden by the system battery)
-now you have access to the system fan, HDDs etc. you'll have to unplug the CMOS coincell battery found next to the system fan.
-now turn your laptop over and press the power button for ~30 seconds.

-you may now put everything back in reverse order.
-turn it on and see if you have the same issue.

If you still do then run a system diagnostic, press F12 key at boot (to check for bad ram sticks etc.)

If there's no problem detected and you still have the issue, reflash your BIOS.

    Keep us posted

Or unplug everything battery and power cord hold the poweron button for 20sec without battery or power going into the laptop, after 20.sec connect up everything again and power on.

Uhm, this is what I said but if you don't unplug the coincell battery too, the CMOS won't reset

System Diagnostics said "Memory Integrity Failed". Now what? What would cause that?

    your RAM :/
Try reseating the modules and run the diag again.
If you get the same error try with only one module/stick at a time to see which one is it.

Call Dell and tell them about the diag result, they will send you another pair or stick.

It appears that a memory dimm has gone bad on your laptop. Probably Dimm A

remove it and try booting up if it does it again remove the other one and put the first one back its one or the other.

Hey Hey katalin_2003 beat me :0

So I found out that because I had my RAM voltage overclocked in the BIOS from original 1.5v to 1.7v is what was causing the problems. Under my Performance tab in my BIOS, I actually have it set for a 5% CPU overclock with and extra 175mv to the cpu. I though I needed to also up the RAM voltage, but i guess not? Also, under my Performance Settings in the BIOS is says that my CPU CORE VOLTAGE is disabled. Should I enable this? What does it do?

You don't need to OC your RAM to achieve the 5% CPU OC.
If you want to get more out of your 920xm download throttlestop by uncleweb. Search for the throttlestop guide and start having fun.

Thank you for finding a solution to this problem. It has plagued me for over a year now and I just accepted that if I did a proper shutdown of my laptop I'd have to remove the battery and ps, then start it up. I had finally accepted the problem as just another unsolved alienware glitch. Dell even replaced my laptop once over this. Never once did they say anything about bios settings.

Len1304, Did you also have the RAM Voltage turned up past 1.5 in the Performance Settings in the BIOS?

Yes I did. Now I have it set to defaults and it's working great.
