Hello, I'm not native English so sorry for my English.
I had an old Dell Vostro 1500 (8600M GT) and brand new M17x-R4 (HD7970M). Problem is I CAN play FIFA 12 on my Vostro 1500, but NOT on M17x-R4.
I installed it (FIFA), run, choose language (which is English), and then the game (on M17x-R4) just stuck there (the "FIFA officially product" screen), like for 5 mins and quit.
I'm using the same internet connection (wireless), same FIFA version (I copied it from M17-R4 to Vostro 1500), same Origin account..., so it's definately no problem there.
I guess something wrong between the new HD7970M and FIFA12, so I googled, and did try some change, but could not help:
_reinstall newest 12.6 drivers.
_turn off V-sync on FIFA12, and force V-sync, force AA using D3Doverrider.
_turn on micro-stuttering, disable Aero theme, ...
_change SCREEN_SLEEP in fifaconfig.ini from 16 to 0, and 1, and 3...
_change render quality between Low-Med-High.
The same thing happen with EURO 2012. But I CAN play other games BF3 MW3 ... smoothly.
Anyone helping? Thanks.

I have FIFA 12, just haven't installed it yet. Will do and let you know what I find.
In the meantime, would you mind running a few tests with the integrated HD4000 graphics? Because I know this game runs with the HD3000 as well. Just trying to eliminate buggy in-game settings/configurations here.
That said, notebookcheck.com has benchmarks up for FIFA 12, which means the game is running fine on the R4... -
I figured it out, it caused by ATI drivers. I used the newest 12.6 beta from ATI, and it sucks.
Downloaded and installed 12.6 MOD 7900, and it worked. -
Good for you bro, have fun
and join us in the wait for fully functional official drivers, lol
