Hey everyone, I just got an M17x-R4 refurb, and it had Win 7 stock on it and ran flawlessly. I upgraded to Win 8, and I've been having some problems installing the drivers.

On the Dell website, when I select Windows 8 drivers, then scroll down to select the Intel IvyBridge Graphics Driver in the Video section, it says the file cannot be found. I try downloading the Win 7 drivers, and it says that "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."

Any ideas? Why is the darn Dell driver missing from the website? :( I can't install my GTX680M drivers because of it.

    Nvidia GeForce GTX680M

I also attempted to install from Windows Update, and it didn't go through.

There is, but every time I attempt to install it, it fails. I get a Code 800F0217.

Sorry for the inconvenience, seems like Dell's support site is down for maintenance or updates.

In the meantime, I believe the driver found in the link above should work just fine.

Haha, sorry, my bad. I've had an R1 with a G200 GPU for years, and I only just got my R4 recently. Old habits die hard. XD

Tried this, it didn't work. =/ I got a "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software" error.

Grrr... this is preventing me from doing anything gaming-related and it's utterly infuriating. I might just revert to Windows 7 until this BS is figured out. Still, any solution is wanted. I actually really like Win 8.

Im having the exact same issue. m17xR4 GTX680M.

first the graphics card was not detected when trying to install nvidia drivers, but it would not detect the card.

after hitting Alt-F7 to switch graphics mode and restarting the card showed up and I was able to install drivers.

However, firing up any game shows it clear its still using the integrated graphics card as it lagging like hell and it was ultra smooth before.

I have tried updating the intel drivers but that has not worked, or also configuring the nvidia control panel to use the 680m.

nothing seems to work... did you find a solution for this? please reply if you find anything

With Optimus you're supposed to install Intel driver first, so you can detect your 680M.

Did anyone overlook the fact that they are trying to install Windows 8?

OP: Give this link a try for the Intel driver. It is the Windows 8 driver and it downloads fine for me.
    http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00793394M/6/Video_Intel_W84_X08_A00_Setup-0MW6J_ZPE.exe

For the AMD one just download the newest drivers from the AMD site. The 12.10 or the 12.11 beta should be fine but with your 7970 I would recommend the latter as there are some performance improvements for us.

This is strange OS behavior. For me, when I installed windows 8 fresh on R4 at first bootup it automatically installed intel drivers for me. I have 7970M but that should not matter in the case of merely installing Intel drivers. Check windows update and see if in the optional downloads intel drivers are available.

    Hi Again,

    Just to update...

    Its finally working!

Here is what worked for me..

After running in to a problem where the screen would just flash on and off when trying to start up I did a system restore.

One back in to windows hit Alt F7 to switch the auto graphics switch feature.

Once back in windows, both graphics cards showed up in device manager installed the Intel HD 4000 drivers, restarted, then installed the BETA nvidia drivers '310.33-notebook-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-beta' These are the drivers that got it working for me. I have had trouble like this with Optimus before.

I tried the above with the latest release version of the drivers from nvidia and it would not kick the 680m in to play but it looks like its fixed in the BETA drivers. No crashes so far.

    hope this helps!
