Recently I was instructed by ALIENWARE Tech Support to do a Bios update due to the problems I was having with Error Messages with the AC Adapter and reverting back to the integrated graphics. They instructed me to install the Alienware m17x R2 BIOS A04 Release Date 6/4/2010. I fallowed the instructions PERFECT to the "T" by burning the ISO Image file and booting to the disk. When it was done installing I received a message that it was installed correctly.

Since the new bios update my M17x will not operate properly. I don't seem to have a fraction of the CPU and GPU power. I can not play any games with out it being in super slow video play and super fast audio play. Ant application that is any demanding will be supper slow as well.

I called ALIENWARE Tech Support about the problem. They said they were aware of a problem with the new bios update and i was going to have to wait 1 week for a new update.

I Told them that I cant wait to have a working computer and asked If I can install the old BIOS.

The ALIENWARE Tech Support told me that he can not provide me with the old BIOS because it will still have problems with the AC Adapter...

I told them that at least the computer worked at that point and I didn't care about the AC Adapter Error.

ALIENWARE Tech Support then told me that I could try on my own but he could not authorize it, and for me to just wait the week for the new BIOS update.

Im ing Pissed at this point!

Any one have an older BIOS they can send me?

I can't wait for Dell or ALIENWARE and their lies!

If I can't get it to work I'm just going to try and return it or seek legal advice.

there should be a copy of your original bios on your resource cd

*Edit* Infact scratch that because if it's an older disk it wont have the dpc fix so heres a link to the A03 Bios... ftp://ftp.dell.com/bios/R254103.exe
Btw if you have integrated graphics your system is an r1 not an r2

I am confused. You say M17X R2: are you not confusing with the M17X R1?

Maybe you are using the wrong bios.

You mention integrated graphics but the R2 does not have integrated graphics only the R1 does.

Please the specs of your PC so we can help you better.

I checked the picture you attached and you have an M17X R1 not an R2. That might be an issue since you mention R2 on your thread I am wondering if you are actually using the M17X R2 BIOS A04 instead of the R1.

When downloading drivers you should always use your tag to avoid such mistakes. Installing the BIOS of a different PC is not going to make it better.

EDIT: Oogamar sorry for the post about the difference in between R1 and R2. I did not see that you had already mentioned that.

I used my service tag to download the bios from dells website so I am sure I had installed the right one.
I thought i had a R2... I have both Integrated NVidia Geforce 9400 and the SLI Geforce GTX 260M.

will that bios that oogamar posted work with what I got?

    [Red M17x] [Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000] [Nvidia 1GB SLI GForce GTX 260M] [4gb DDR3 1333ghtz] [2X 500GB SATA Raid1] [DVD R+RW] [Windows 7 - 64Bit]

BIOS A04 works fine on my R1.

R2 PC have i5 or i7 CPU and ATI GPUs. There was no Nvidia option on the R2.

I believe there were a few releases dates of A04 I remember there was a Bios they had me download when I first got my M17x in April that had worked decently. yes there were some errors but not major ones.

Alienware Said that not everyone will expirance the problems I am having with the new Bios but they know most people have. so concider your self lucky if yours is still good with the new Bios Update release date 6/4/2010.

If your system is RAID enabled, after flashing the BIOS and rebooting the system go into the BIOS Advanced menu and set the SATA Operation to RAID. Then enable each drive for RAID that should work

Thanks I think this bios version worked perfictly! So far no DPC problems, no CPU problems, and no AC Adapter Warnings!

I just might call Alienware and tell them how to help other people.

Thankyou oogamar,Joebarchuck, and _XIII_ for your help, its a shame that I can get better support here than with Alienware.

Since I have an R1 and not a R2 I dont want to confuze other people who might read this thred at a later time.

It seems that a lolt of other people are having this same issue acording to Alienware.
