Hi guys, I couldn't find any good compariosons regarding this but I wanted to ask if I overclock my 5870XF, how would they compare to 6990XF that are NOT overclocked. I'm pretty sure that the 6990XF would still be faster, even if not overclocked, but was wondering if it is, would it be by much? I was thinking of upgrading to 6990XF but it seems like a lot of hassle to do so. Instead, if I just oc'ed my 5870XF and the perforamce gets close to the 6990XF (not oc'ed) i'd rather just do that. My full specs are in my sig. Any thoughts?

6990CF annihilates 5870CF man. A single 6990 with an 800/1000 OC scores ~15K GPU in Vantage. I used to run my 5870CF at 800/1000, which, depending on the CPU OC, scored around 17K GPU in Vantage. They are 2GB GDDR5 cards with 1120 shaders. Problem is that you're going to spend about $1K to get a pair of them. I realize that you're asking about a non OC'd 6990CF setup, but that makes no sense. Of course you're going to also OC the 6990s. I know I sure as hell will.

yes if you only have one 6990 overclocking makes sense, if you have 2 overclocking is only practical for benchmarks, otherwise you'll get throttling

any way to answer the question have a look at this pic
    Just keep in mind:
I have only tested 6 games
I think hawx2 is cpu bound
Crysis 2 could be throttling a bit as i haven't rerun the benchmark since I undervolted my 6990s
And the 5870 overclocks are max overclocks were done overvolted and stability beyond the the duration of the benchmarks is unknown

summing up the 6990s beat 5870s by a good margin even when overclocked

a single 6990m slightly overclocked will be equivalent to xfire 5870's

    2x6990's will demolish 2x5870's
