    Hello

First, sorry for my bad englisch, i am from Austria.
Can i upgrade my 820QM to 940XM in my M17xR2?
When yes, where is the best shop to buy a 940XM (ES)? (MAX 600 Euro).
Is the cpu cooler the same 820/940?

    LG, Nafura

    Hey there!

    To put it short.

    1) Yes, you can upgrade to 940xm. No problem.
    2) Ebay is your friend. Laptopmonkey and Shirley's cpu are well known.
    3) Same cooler. You might want to purchase a thermal compound(Arctic Silver 5, MX2, MX3 or Tuniq TX-4) however.

    Hope that helps.

I just did a very similar upgrade. 720qm to 920XM and used this guy
New Intel® Core? i7-920XM Processor 2.0GHz/8m/1333 on eBay (end time 04-Nov-10 23:21:48 GMT)
    fast and cheap :)

the CPU does run hotter than the 720qm and kicks the CPU fan to full speed which is annoying as its loud.

i am buying some shin etsu thermal paste and going to put that on (currently using the cheap stuff that came with the CPU). Hopefully that will stop the fan going to full speed :). Basically get the best thermal paste you can and as the guys have posted many times on the forums, its all about how you screw the heatsink back on as to how much contact you get with the CPU. i might have a look at that when i open it up again to do the 5870m mod. Just take your time opening the laptop and dont rip any of the cords out and read the whole guide through before you do each step.

current temps in wprime running 8 threads in Pi 1024 mode are about 75-80c.

i purchased the 920XM as its quite a bit cheaper than the 940 (it only costs £240!!) and when you use throttlestop, its the same speed.
