ive been thrashing around with DELL Australia for the pst 2 weeks to get the best deal on the M17X R2.

    So, ive got to:

    CPU: 740
    Video: 1 x 5870
    RAM: 6GB
    HDD: 500GB
    Panel: 1920x1200
    Only 1 HDD Bracket

    All for $2,100 AU.

Is this a decent price?

Ok,well i havnt bought it yet, can you let me know what i can do to get a better price, i haggled for weeks to get that price.

The quote only lists 1 HDD bracket.

Warranty, just the standard 12 mnths

I'd try for extra warranty if possible, it's probably the single most important thing with these laptops. Things don't always come 100% when you get them unfortunately.

If your on a tight budget, maybe Alienware isn't the way to go for you. There are other options you could go for that would perform better for the price you wish to pay.

Maybe, but i really like to look of the M17X (baclight keyboard, lighting, screen quality etc), and i figure i can upgarde to the additional GFX later on if i need to, same for the CPU.

Not 100% for games, but want the powr when i do.......

It is a 1st class unit from what im reading.......

See if you can go for 8GB of ram instead of 6GB then, if you plan to upgrade everything else later. I managed to get a further 10% knocked off the price, and an extra year of premium warranty by calling back over and over until I found a salesmen willing to bargain with me. Call them up, tell them what you want, and under what conditions. If they refuse to drop the price at all or wont throw anything in for free, hang up and start again. I think I spent an entire week calling them everyday.

    Wow, good advice.

Ok, ill do some more phoning to maybe some different salepeople. Do you reckon ill get a beter deal that $2,100 for the system i posted earlier tho?

I guess i just want to make sure im not getting any less than i could be for the money im paying.

It costs more to upgrade later. Check eBay, there are GREAT deals on refurb notebooks.

You'll be very lucky to get any kind of discount from Dell's Australasian sales reps. ViolentSeizure's discount was the exception, not the rule, as you can see from the full week of calling up sales reps.

I'd recommend paying more for the Crossfire graphics now, rather than upgrading later. It's one of the few upgradeable components where you can only get it new from Dell (or a select few eBay sellers), and if you get it with the laptop it'll be guaranteed to work (or Dell will fix the problem).
