    Hello everyone,

Apologies if this has been answered before but I've spent a few hours on Google and have not found the answer to this question.

Recently, I've noticed that the back of my laptop gets VERY hot while gaming, and I mean HOT - I cannot touch it as it literally burns. So, I'm wondering what temperature ranges are considered standard (AKA: definitely shouldn't go over) when idling and when under heavy load on my setup:

    CPU: i7 Q720
    GPU: Single Nvidia GeForce GTX285M

    Thanks in advance!

My back cover gets extremely hot too...it's metal and that's where the rear exhaust is with 2 x 5870 Mobility + i7 extreme..

In general, temperatures in the 80C+ for prolonged periods is generally not a good idea.

Thanks for the replies. Y'all were right - it definitely shouldn't get that hot.

I ran a stress test and found out GPU temperatures were hitting 100c and CPUs' weren't too far behind. I immediately took the computer apart for a deep clean and repaste and I couldn't believe how dirty it was!

Granted I've had this computer for over a year but still, it was about 4 years before I deep cleaned my previous laptop and it wasn't this bad by a long shot.

Anyway, long story short - max temperatures under load are now mid 60s Celsius.
