    Hey,
I just got my m17x with CF 5870's. Having an issue while playing a Blu-ray. when loading a blu ray it will not play the video but you can hear the sound of the movie... then the screen will flicker... then goes blank and ATI CCC reports that the graphics driver was recovered from an error. What suggestions do you guys have?

You may want to try installing one of the codec packs as well. I use K-Lite codec pack. It's free.

Tried that... doent help. I also tried disabling CF. Also disabled hardware decode. Still wont play video. Interesting enough it will play the menu's of the Blu-ray fine... but once you hit play on the menu... it flickers and no video is heard... only audio. And also stuttering with the screen turing off... then ati recovery kicks in. I may try to reinstall Dells ATI CCC. Anyone else having problems with Blu ray? Could it be the Blu-ray drive? The drive reads data just fine.... im at a loss :(

ok this has got to be a driver issue with ATI... a DVD will play but not a Blu ray disk. Is there anyone else experiencing this?! Is there a setting to disable/enable that I am missing?! ATI driver will crash every time when I try a blu ray... the sound is fine but I get a weird flicker on the screen and no video

it might be the blu ray player or the cards. if the driver update for the 5870 doesn't help then the player might need to be replaced?

Well dang... looks like Ill be calling tech support tomorrow. Im already getting a new RGB LCD due to dead pixels... might as well throw some more new stuff in. I just dont get why it will play a dvd but not a blu ray?! perhaps it is the drive rather than the cards. Crysis runs great on the system with no flickering and no problems... its got to be the drive then right?!

Nope. I think im going to reinstall a new copy of windows that I have. It may be an issue with windows home... i have a copy of windows ultimate that i can put on it. Also, will removing the OEM recovery partition void the warranty? i really dont need a recovery... I prefer fresh install of everything anyways. Plus that is 10GB of my 128GB SSD taken away!

    EDIT
I went ahead and removed recovery partitions w/format of drive and fresh install of windows ultimate. Once I get all the drivers back on it and WinDVD I will give it another try

    EDIT 2
Installed ATI driver first, then WinDVD... no other alienware drivers loaded = Success!
I will begin to load other drivers to narrow down what was causing the problem, if all drivers loaded and still works purhaps it was an issue with Windows 7 Home since now im using Ultimate 7

    EDIT 3
Ive finished installing each individual driver... Blu-ray continues to work correctly. I did notice that on my alienware resource disk that the 4870 drivers were on there instead of the 5870. I bet they install those before installing the 5870 drivers. Anyways... it works now

    EDIT 4
Wow not only does my blu ray work but I get better FPS in Crysis!! I was getting 21-25FPS at High settings. Now im getting 55-65FPS!!! I can now run with almost all settins at Very High and still have >28FPS!
