if someone interested i managed to pull the glass of the M17X off and cut the part of the screen i didn't glued back yet because i don't like the shiny bezel and i may order some matte carbon fiber Di- noc to cover it that's why is tape on it just to hold it for now :)

Can you post some close up pics of where the screen meets the bezel? Also of the edges where the bezel meets the metal casing. I'd love a matte screen but one of my favourite aspects of the current screen is that it's one whole piece edge to edge and its a breeze to clean, as opposed to getting dust and all the other stuff stuck in the bezel corners.

Speedy, the front panel is actually plastic, not glass right? because its easily scratched if you are not careful with it.

It definitely looks brighter side by side.. I was working on a M17x last week and had them side by side with the brightness cranked up and my Precision(same screen) was certainly brighter ..

It's most definitely not glass. That is a really cool mod. The reflection drives me crazy.

Yes it is brighter i actually have to lower the brightness because i was burning my eyeballs :D

    What dock you talking about?

yes i may post some pics later i still debating if i should paint the Alienware lettering

No is not revertible the plastic is attached with 3M double side tape and is a pain to remove it

Yes is same as Plexiglass but polished

I don't recommend this mod unless you know how to work with plexiglass because is to easy to brake it specially when you remove it from the panel but if you want the details of how i did it i can post it here

Very cool. I would leave the bezel with the plastic. It would kind of match the other shiny parts of the computer.

    Nice job man.

Hey speedy, could you give us a closer look at where the edges of the screen meet and the black plastic around it? That'd be really nice. Was considering doing this mod after I noticed nicks starting to appear all over my screen, which pops up when there are lots of whites.

Is it true that we lose color vividness and contrast gets lower with a matte?

    Thanks a dozen. :D

Nice mod man, personally i don't mind the screen as it is but to a matte screen i'll never say no. Will probably do it when i'll find some time.
Also i bet most of us would like a kind a guide thing :p

Wow, it would be nice to not have the reflections, being homeless I game in public places, libraries, cafe's etc etc and if Im in a bright spot I have to wear a dark colored shirt or the reflected light really makes games challenging to view, especially being that a lot of the latest games involve being in dark locales.

Ive heard that the glass actually does a better job of transmitting the color and display in general, and that was the only caveat with going with a matte screen?

    Hello!
I actually have an alienware m17x r2, and I have a big problem with it.
There's a bug inside the screen, between the lcd and the glass.
I would like to know how to remove the glass.
From what i've understood, it's glued. All we've to do is to take a thin knife, or something like that, and put it in the hole between the glass and the back shell that is expended in the left and the right when you look at the front of the screen, in the 3 side (left, up, and right) and then there'll be no more glue and i could get that glass off ? isn't there something like a cable or a screw that i have to take care of when doing that ?

Tell me if i'm right, or wrong. I really need your help

Sorry if my english is bad :(
And thank you in advance for your help !

You should remove the back lid off the screen before so you don't damage it. Need to disassemble the system and take the whole screen off, then take off the lid.

Well after trying to get of the plexi, I was near a great success but at the end I broke it. So i would like to do the same mod as you Speedy Gonzalez, put some "matte carbon fiber Di- noc" around the screen.. But here's my problem, what are the metering ? And where did you do it ?
If you read this please I beg you to answer, you're my last hope..Or if someone knows the metering and stuff could tell me, that would be great !

It would be great if we can get a detailed and clear written guide on removing the plastic bezel and cutting out the glass from bezel.
