    I can change the volume while in any program, but is there any way for me to have iTunes open in the background while playing Starcraft and use the back / forward / pause / play touch controls?

    No,the buttons will work with iTunes if it's selected,same for others WMP etc.

    don't have itunes on my windows boxes but the buttons work just fine with foobar/media player classic and whatever version of WMP comes with Win7. just tested them out now....
