    Hi All,

I enabled option to charge USB devices when laptop is off in BIOS (Ver. A9) but laptop still does not output 5v to charge when powered off or in standby (with mains charger plugged in or on battery)

    is this normal ?

I just got my m17x so I'm not sure on this, but I believe that charging while laptop is off only works on one port, the one nearest to you on the left side. And I think in the instruction manual, I think it even says, it doesn't work for all devices.

The power off charging only works on the USB/eSATA port. It's the only one that gets power.

Just like I said, its the USB port closest to you on the left side of the laptop, the one next to the firewire(1394) port.

Make sure it's enabled in the BIOS.

Edit: Sorry. Re-read your post. You did enable in BIOS. Sorry. ;)

Edit2: The manual does say ... "NOTE: Certain USB devices may not charge when the computer is turned off or in standby mode. In such cases turn on the computer to charge the device."

What device are you attempting to charge? I've successfully charged my iPhone 3GS via this method.

    Thanks for your reply :)

I am trying to charge an HTC Desire . . I measured 5V out of the usb/esata when laptop is powered off so I think it's not supplying enough mAH

(it charges fine when laptop is powered on . . (I think I have to live with it)

Edit: if the mobile is with at least 5% charge it charges fine . . if 0% (which is reality it's not 0% cos of the hardware protection not to completly drain a lipo battery) it doesn't charge, so the mobile needs more then the normal 500mAH that a usb can supply.
