This has been an ongoing problem intermittent til now, but now it seems it's not going away.

The power supply appears to be working normally; the blue light at the end of the power cord is illuminated.

Plugging the power supply in to the laptop and then powering up, the machine beeps at startup, and says that the attached power supply is not a genuine dell power supply. When windows boots, I get a message in the system tray stating that the attached power supply is not supported, and that the computer will continue to operate on battery power only.

If i shut down, then power up without the battery installed, i get the same message.

The CPU and GPU are throttled back to around 50% when operating with the "unrecognized" power supply. As you can imagine, this certainly sucks for gaming.

I have tried doing a zero power reset. No help. I'm about to shut down and remove the BIOS battery for a bit, but really don't want to have to fight the battle of re-doing the bios settings, as I'm operating with a striped raid array.

    Any hints???

Edit: I have set all the "when operating on battery...." settings to maximum performance, but I still get CPU/GPU throttling when operating with my power supply.

What BIOS version are you on?
    Do you still have warranty?
This is a known problem on some systems where the system fails to read the original charger's proprietary info.
Answer to my questions and we can go from there.

Bios version is A02, which is the version it came with. I've never messed with updating the bios at all.

    No warranty left.

I kinda figured this would be a problem others would have, but have been unsuccessful in finding posts here (or anywhere else, for that matter) about this issue.

Update to the latest version, it fixes alot of issues!
Download it from Dell's support site.

    Just updated to bios A10.

    Didn't fix the problem.

Any other pointers, or maybe a link to a thread where this has been previously discussed?

I only ran into this problem on my M15x when I didn't insert the power adapter all the way into the laptop but your problem sounds different. I think it might be an issue with the voltage your power supply is giving out. It might not be outputing properly but the only real way to check is if you have a multimeter or another power supply.

That was a very informative thread, thanks for that.

Great. :/ I've tried every fix listed in the main thread about this, but it's still doing it.

Not very impressed with Delienware so far.

Yes, there is that option in the bios, but setting the bios so that it doesn't beep on power up doesn't prevent the cpu throttling that occurs when it's running with a power supply it doesn't recognize as being correct; all it does is prevent the beep at power up.
