    Hi,

I have an Alienware M17xR3, I changed the graphics back in 2014 (GTX680M for GTX580M), it still works. I even got Windows 10 running, despite the support saying it wouldn't work. Question is, my microphone is not working, even the external ones. The Cam is working, however in the internals there's no "array", it just says webcam. I tried reinstalling IDT driver, but that one makes things worst. With it playing audio files sounds like a cat with a hickup. People on the net say that IDT is not supporting my system configuration. Is there any way to get a microphone working?

Start>Settings>Privacy>Camera>"Allows Apps to Access Camera" to ON

Start>Settings>Privacy>Microphone>"Allows Access to the microphone on this device">Change>ON

Start>Settings>Privacy>Microphone>"Allows Apps to Access Microphone" to ON

Also, when installing audio driver. Install the one from Dell's website, use Windows 7 compatibility mode to install.

I was under the impression the M17xR3 needed to disable onboard audio to make newer cards work? Or was that only for AMD cards?

Also in BIOS check to make sure microphone is enabled if you have the unlocked BIOS.

External mics should work with the listed steps.

    Hi,
Privacy settings are all ok. Trying to install the audio driver in win7 compatibility mode it just says “the detected hardware is not supported by this idt software package”. Going to bios, there is no microphone option visible.

@ssj92 I think that mess started from the nVidia 7xx m series upwards, if I am not completely wrong.

AMD cards didn't have that problem, had a 7970m running in the r3, not any problems with the audio chip + no need for driver modding, on W7 64bit, but I never tested that combo on 10.

Have you tried reinstalling windows? I know it's a lot of work, but it can sometimes solve issues you normally can't due to registry entries, etc.

I'm not sure. I am curious though what speed that 3920XM is running in your M17xR4 ;)

Need to check that next time when I'm on it, from memory I remember ~3.9-4.1 all.

Last months I've preferred the "new" desktop over the m17x (just because it's much more powerful). But need to spend sm. time with the old lady again, always been a m17x/m18x geek... :D
