If you have the 460m m17x r3 this update does help alot.I noticed since ive had mine ive been trying to use the nvidia 3d content web site and it kept saying i didnt have the proper hardware. So after downloading and installing the update i rushed straight back to 3D Videos | 3DVision Live (set internet explorer to full screen mode) then when you pick the movie you want to watch now if you turn on your 3d (with whatever command you have set to in the nvidia control panel) it will in fact work now.

You know actually i didnt pay it much attetion until u asked but yes it actually does .I know this because theres one game in paticular i go to play on ultra and never can ,,,, FSX flight sim , at first i could play with 2 on ultra the rest on high and traffic medium high ,,, after update not only did i see a increase in fps but i can actually play all ultra settings now with just traffic on high. Also when in 3d mode during fsx i can play all on ultra but 2 and thats traffic and weather , I failed to test 3d before the update so im not sure on the increase here.Hope this helps you all out , but at this point id say a great improvement. You can also download the 3d app development program and i beleive that should work now to finally.

I downloaded and installed both the new Nvidia and latest Intel drivers. After doing a full uninstall of both older drivers, I installed both—Intel first and Nvidia second—and almost everything seems fine...

...except my Second Life viewer (Phoenix Viewer) refuses to use the Nvidia card, even if I explicitly tell it to and even put the global setting to the 460M. It still only uses the Intel.

Not sure what to do at this point. WoW runs as expected.

Any suggestions to force this app to use the 460M beyond the manual setting in the Nvidia control panel?

I had the same issue with some Autodesk applications. As far as I have been told (by Nvidia support staff), there is nothing that can be done aside from reporting the issue and hoping it is resolved in the next release.

Yep, dell webite says this update is for my computer, and the only way it will work is if I mod the inf file, just like I downloaded it from Nvidida.
What I want to know is how this is working for anyone with an m17xr3 nvidia460m.
Clearly the file does not contain the proper inf file.

yes i have the 120 screen and the 3d bundle. the old driver installs fine.
the chances of me reinstalling windows over this is no chance at all.
I didnt have a chance yet, but I will let you know how it installs after I fix the inf file.

You really shouldnt have to change anything in the inf file.I have the exact same display , 120hz 3d , and the new driver installed 100% without any changes , just a simple click.Seems to me u have other problems with your system.

want to say again , the (dell released)driver does work (and is the only nvidia driver that does). It actually gets you to the nvidia standard for the current 3d content.Without this driver you actually have less available 3d content so it is in fact an upgrade.

Edit: i also recommend for those with the 3d bundle that you download the Nvidia 3d vision video player , It works great for alot of content that was not available before, with some small changes you tube 3d videos can even be viewed using this player. Not sure why dell failed to include it at all.

like i said, i did not find a problem, i was later able to redownload the file and it installed. The first one I d/l failed to install, no error mentioned.
i did not find any reason for it to fail, so I d/l it again, worked fine.

I went back to 266.68. There was no noticeable improvement in frame rates in WoW, and the fact that the updated driver would not run Phoenix viewer was unacceptable.

you guys still having this issue? I noticed a couple of posts on the forum talking about the R3 having the 'resume to blank screen issue'.

For those of you who received a install failed message, my understanding is the existing driver has to be uninstalled first. Uninstall it and 270.61 should then be ok to install.

Curious what driver the 3D owners are running currently...

    poll added to thread.

I'm not sure if the 270 will resolve the issues you mentioned. Best to stick with the Dell driver for now. :(

3D user here, as previously stated this is when the issue started for me (updating to this driver revision). Sometimes it happens now after waking from sleep and starting a program that "touches" the display say a game or browser that changes to basic mode in windows. The way I have been able to avoid a hard reboot was changing the laptop back to sleep on lid close (something i normally disable and set to display power off only) and when I get the black screen "pause" if I close the lid and open it again (cycle sleep, but let it try to sleep and try to wake up, slowly) 99% of the time it will recover if I am patient with it.

Hopefully that wasn't too much of a ramble.

Yes, that's the one I meant: 266. 08. The old brain isn't working as well as it used to and I was on the forum from my work laptop, not my R3, so couldn't double-check at the time.

Ok I think I have further clues to this black screen issue. Since I have found the workaround to the full reboot, setting sleep on panel close and waiting for it to sleep / wake-up, I notice the following when the screen "comes back". 90% of the time I hear the "new device detected blip" and the screen resolution will be off. The other 10% of the time the same happens but when launching the NVIDIA control panel it will either not launch or will launch with the monitor not detected and or all the default settings off like it can't determine what panel you have. I wonder if this can help us figure out a way to make it better. Possibly examine the .inf for this driver package (for those that are guru's of it) and maybe see if a Dell employee fat fingered a portion of the .inf file?

    -thoughts-

This should work to work-around the resume issue and the funky device connect/disconnect as well.

The original 266.08 ( Drivers and Downloads) does not have the resume issue.

    IMPORTANT:
Be sure to use the following M18x drivers as they are updated and for the same device (17x driver page shows the older driver):

    1. Intel HM67 Cougar Point chipset v9.2.0.1019 (versus 17xR3 driver v9.2.0.1015)
    Drivers and Downloads

    2. Intel Management Engine Interface v7.0.4.1197 (versus 17xR3 driver v7.0.1.1141)
    Drivers and Downloads

    3. Intel Rapid Storage Technology v10.1.2.1004 (versus 17xR3 driver v10.0.0.1046)
    Drivers and Downloads

    4. USB 3.0 Driver v2.0.34.0 (versus 17xR3 driver v2.0.26.0)
    Drivers and Downloads

    5. Realtek Card Reader Driver v6.1.7600.77 (versus 17xR3 driver v6.1.7600.64)
    Drivers and Downloads

If you want to try the newer driver, this too will not have issues (like the 267.64). 275.21 should be fine. Use Darcoder's mod in order to install it. See this post:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/7504553-post49.html

Download the 275.21 driver from NV (mobile of course). Download Darcoder's mod from his megaupload link, extract his archive and then copy the entire directory 'Driver.Display' in the 275.21 NV directory. You should be prompted to overwrite, say yes. Run the setup.exe. If you are not prompted to overwrite when pasting his modded directory, you did something wrong and the directory was not copied to the write location within the NV driver directory.

Do I need to load all of the drivers listed in this post before loading the video one? And thanks batboy and others for staying on top of this. Also do I need to uninstall 267.64 before installing 275?

    I would completely uninstall 267.64.

I suggest disabling Windows Automatic Driver Install before updating drivers - reference this LINK). Doing this gives you full control of what drivers are installed. No need to let Windows frustrate you with an auto install.

You can load the drivers after the fact but I do suggest updating all of them. I created a thread on this for better visibility, see here:

Did custom install, clean install option. Reran 3d wizard. So far so good. I turned lid sleep back off so that i can see if display resume goes back to hanging. So far no, cross fingers. Thanks Batboy. I'm gonna wait a week or so on the other drivers. I try to stagger things if I can to diagnose issues.
