How can i fix this so that i dont have to go back to game i was playing.

Someone posted a solution for this which helped me out. You have to download the Alienware OSD. Let me look for it, cause i had the same problem.

Here found the link

Downloading and installing this should help you out. -
OSD is already installed

It is... if not you wouldnt be able to see when you change the volume, but reinstalling that version is suppose to fix the problem. I had the OSD already installed too and reinstalling it fixed that same problem. If this doesn't help then I hope someone else has a solution.

Yeah I agree this is a problem, I can't stop mine from doing it either. It happens on some games, where as other games seem to be fine without dropping to the desktop.
How nice of dell to include a desktop OSD graphic of the volume when in mid gameI would of though that they would mark this as unacceptable for a expensive gaming notebook.
The only way to stop it is the disable the OSD process, but then you cannot change the volume at all using the same volume buttons, in fact all of the media buttons don't work. -
For those of you running into this issue, install the Alienware OSD (on-screen display) driver for the M18x. This will resolve the issue. See below for confirmation from Nyceis.
Drivers and Downloads
To do this:
1. Download 18x OSD from above link
2. Uninstall existing OSD via Programs & Features Control Panel
3. Reboot
4. Run the installer for the 18x OSD and once complete reboot -
Apparently they are not the same. The m14x driver does fix the leaving full screen problem, but the buttons are mapped incorrectly and some do not work at all.
We have to wait for Dell/Alienware to fix it for our laptops. This is absurd, it should be an easy fix. Where's the Dell rep(s) who used to hang out here... -

One still checks in now and then but yea, not sure what happened.

Having said that, the m14x drivers don't work, *BUT* the m18x drivers do work for me. They no longer show the onscreen indicator in full screen mode - perfect!
