    Hi,

I have 5.1 speakers. In windows they work fine but when I start a game like starcraft 2 the 5.1 sound crashes and I don't have any sound left both ingame and on the desktop.

I reinstalling the game/driver wont solve the problem. restarting the pc will give me the sound back. Also according to the "speaker test" the rear speakers are the front speakers after a game was started.... :S

After reading your 16 post, I can conclude that you are an idiot, or a troll that does a horrible job.

Haha, I thought you were talking about me. Until I realised the quote was from a reply that was removed.

So this happens with just about any game that supports 5.1 sound? Do movies do the same thing?

I did some tests. Video and counter strike global offensive work fine. BUT only if I didn't start starcraft or skype. Those 2 will make the 5.1 crash and nothing will work, only a restart will fix that.

I have a logitech G930 7.1 headset. Could it be related? I don't have it connected though

update: 7.1 headset drivers completely removed + reinstall starcraft2/skype + reinstall audio drivers, nothing happened.

That's a pretty weird issue. What audio drivers are you using? the DELL ones?

I am using the IDT drivers that I get from entering my "service tag". So yes those are the Dell ones. When my sound crashes the only speakers that have sound are the rear ones.

Strange thing is the rear ones get the front signal..... so moving my green connector to the rear connection will give me 2.1 sound back.....

Update: installing the older IDT driver doesn't make a difference....

Well, we can rule out a hardware problem as of now since it is only those two programs. At least I would think. Unfortunately, my generic response in this case, is that it would have to be something with Windows at this point. You could try reinstalling that, if you want.

It would be great if someone that uses that 5.1 sound could chime in, because I never personally used it.

Yes someone that uses 5.1 sound would be of help.

I'm having the exact same issue, I used to have the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi MB2, I did a format and now using the IDT drivers from dell. still the same issue, randomly losing sound in 5.1, and yes I did try starcraft 2, once closed sound is gone, and goes to rear. a restart would be the only solution. I'm assuming there's no fix for this but it is pretty annoying. this post is 4 months old :/
