Hello guys, i just registered here and i m glad to be a part of this community.
Just yesterday i bought my alienware m17xr3 (2670QM/8GB/1TB/amd6990M)
I m not sure if i made the right choice since alienware are really expensive in my country.
I'd like to ask a few things since i m getting confused.

1)First of all, do u think i made a good choice buying amd 6990 instead of nvidia ? i know amd has better performance but nvidia is more stable (usually) and also has 3D. Also, i m used on 1920x1080 resolution so 1600x900 seems a bit wierd to me right now. is there any way to change the max resolution?

    2) Also, on the catalyst control center it says

Graphics Chipset AMD Radeon HD 6900M Series
    Device ID 6720
    Vendor 1002
Core Clock in MHz 715 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz 900 MHz
    Total Memory Bandwidth in GByte/s 115,2 GByte/s

how can i be certain i DO have AMD Radehon HD 6990M since it doesnt say so anywhere? not even in system devices.

And my last question here and sorry for the long post,

    3) How can i install the latest ATI drivers? i tried everything and it seems it doesnt let me. even when i used the autodetect tool it said
amd catalyst mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer

any ideas what can i do?

    thank you in advance guys!

download a program called GPUz...and look at the number of shaders. If you have 1120, then its a 6990

The issue with device id is that the 6970 and the 6990 have the same device id, but the 6990 has 1120 shaders and runs at 715/900

btw is there an option to set the monitor contrast/brightness higher other than the catalyst control center? cause it seems a bit faded. and the options at the power settings are at the higher available
