yes indeed but i have a question

when the cpu temps rise under stress testing does your cpu fan come on full, mine doesn't, the cpu fan passes the F12 boot diagnostic

mine also not running at full speed.. around 2800 to 3300 only... i use software to override the fan speed.

u may download this tools " hwinfo "
run the apps under "sensor only "
click on the "fan" button and custom the fan speed. the max for proc speed is 4200-4300.

Mine is Intelcore i7-2820QM and its successor is the 2860QM. I'm sorry for asking but is anyone here do have the same processor like me? Did you guys got clock improvements when you went to A08?

The new bios was for recognition mostly of the new processors.

the fan seems to be ok but when i run the stress test or the auto routine the cpu goes to 90deg and the test shuts down, the temp rises and falls very quickly, looks like i may need to check my cpu pasting or redo it, I quite amazed at how fast the temp rises and falls after the test is aborted.

this is all before i attempt any overclock, everything is stock.

anyone know what i can use to turn fans on full manually

any other experiences like this would be appriciated before I start to dismantle lol

Use HWInfo64. Run it sensor only and you will see a small buttom the shape of a fan at the bottom. Click it and you will have manual fan control.

ok with standard clocks and stress test only with fans at full speed the test runs but temps are still up at 93deg for all 4 cores which is definately a stress lol, so i must have a cooling issue, can't understand why the fans don't run full when cpu temps get that hight

were u having similar issues ?

i guess only really you and me with this chip at the moment

what bios setting are you using 99w and max duration ?

I can't as i'm overheating as soon as I start the stress test, going to have to check the cpu thermals and possibly redo myself

Hi guys, today i finally got my super NEW M17xR3 (see sig).

My first question. Is there a way (I have already bios a08) to disable the alien logo that appears at first 2 seconds of a boot ? i heard there should be something like quiet boot option in bios, but i check it, and its nowhere to found......
    thx.

There is a way, I forgot how but setting it in the bios will get rid of the Alienhead and instead you'll get a few flashes of code. Personally I like the Alien, Why do you want to get rid of it?

Quiet Boot is included in the Boot section of the unlocked A08 bios and is Enabled by default. In theory it lets you select text mode during the boot sequence. But if you change to Disabled and exit saving changes, it rejects or reverses the change (no notice), so the next boot finds it back at Enabled. Nice avatar, Tigress Orchid. Welcome to the forum.

thx. So only in unlocked A08, right ? I have only factory A08, so it is locked, and I cannot changed it (i didnt see any option in bios, to disable the logo now), right ? :(
EDIT: the whole biosname is: insydeH20 version 1.0 A08

I don't remember any of my previous BIOS flashes being done with an EXE file. Do you update by burning to a disc and booting from the disc as per usual? I assume it's the same for the vbios? I still have the A01 bios and now that BF3 won's start I'm going on an update frenzy. I hope my x-25m SSD still works after this too, Dell was very upset I didn't buy their overpriced samsung. Is the bios only 3.5MB while the VBIOS is over 8? Seems like a small file for a bios. I don't want to nuke my board so insight and advise is welcome and wanted.

The system bios (A08) is very easily updated by simply downloading and running the executable at Drivers and Downloads. Download to the Desktop, double click the file and the bios (and EC) is flashed with minimum fuss. Probably the easiest bios update you've ever done.

I assume the 8MB vbios you are referring to are the newly released NV vbios files for the 580M, et al. Don't know why they are so large, other than they include the flashing programs. By contrast, the ATI/AMD vbios is 128KB.

When I saw it was an exe file I did double click it and received the message 7-zip "the process requires elevation". I've had Asus desktop mobos where I was able to flash the bios from windows but I've never seen a message like this before. I got one of the very first R3's back in April so I have a 460 but I grabbed the vbios for that one. As I slid a CD into the drive today(after not using the drive for 3 months) I found it's defective. So, now I'm waiting for a new one to be shipped. Good times. But what does that message mean?

Thanks for the updated inf BTW. Fixed my BF3 issues and I must say, it's a game.

just remembered... run as admin. Can you tell I have a PHD in Computer Science and Sarcasm? :p I'm just waiting now for the new drive for the GPU. Just priced the 580 for S&Gs and it would cost me more than half what I paid for the laptop... Maybe I'll wait until I can drop a grand on a CPU & GPU. By then the prices should drop enough for that to be possible and get enough of a boost to make it worthwhile.

Glad it's working now. Agree completely about the 580M; I would love to try one out, but the current price is outrageous, particularly given the power and throttling difficulties.

I have 580m, that is not throtling. 5 hours straight, 10 mins pause, 5 hours straight... and still not sign of any single throttle. Yupi.

I really dont know.... But its working like a charm. absolutely smooth gameplay, not a single stutter, no sign of throttling through the whole testday (today 10 hours (5+5 straight) of playing AvP DX11, on ULTRA settings). I wouldnt believe it, if I havnt seen it on my own eyes...... So believe me, IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING. GTX580m works like MAGIC.

Congratulations. It is not an experience widely shared, but in fairness, much of the throttling is seen in connection with benchmarking apps and/or overclocking. Enjoy your good fortune. :)

Nice your 580m is working properly. I have the same, I have no throttling stock everything. I'm using modded bios and vbios because I'm a bencher.
