    Hi ,

after 2 long years, i decided to upgrade my M17xR3 (A12 bios regular on) GPU.

I bought from EBAY this 765m
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-ALIENW...I-/121578984601?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123

    Now.
When i dont have the card in the laptop, its working fine on A12, integrated intel GPU.
I put the new GPU into laptop, start. It freeze BEFORE entering the bios. (the red line goes to 100% , then it freezes, cannot enter bios.) No beeps from laptop at all.
After a while, card get hotter, so the GPU fan start to rotate.

Can anyone help me with this ?
    :/

well, this manual, seems around IDT causing windows to crash. FAAAAR from it.

I need to solve first, to get IN, and OVER the bios.......

BTW? what is difference between locked and unlocked bios ? i guess, it wont add suporrt for 765m

Weird is, that 7xx was announced in 2013, while last A12 is from 2012. How the hell, should that bios know about GPU that wasnt out yet ?

Did you disable High Definition Audio and set Primary Display to PEG before you installed the card or else you should try that.

not yet. Installing unlocked A12 first....
how can disabling HD audio have impact on bios detecting GPU ?

BTw i read some guy, who did SG to PEG switch, while it caused total non functionality of the laptop.....
And becuase Bios isnt detecting my dedicated, it could happen that way, i guess....

basic question is, have anyone ever a trouble detecting 765m, in the bios itself ? ..... Cause from what i read in internet forums everywhere, people see the card in bios, but they have then issues when windows loading.

I think i have different problem.. or ?

Hi, no good news I'm afraid but I might be able to clear up some confusion.

    1. Forget about the sound card problem in the R3. This issue causes windows to black-screen or hang. Never seen it cause a POST failure, nor does it make any sense to do so.

    2. The unlocked bios and forcing PEG for the boot device - unlikely to help. The usual problem with not doing this is windows not seeing the Dgpu or not switching to it. Using the Fn key to force Dgpu results in a failure to restart and the bios resets. It powers down and starts the machine as before in Optimus mode.

I have worked with one other R3/765m owner and eventually he gave up and purchased a 780m - all went fine in PEG.

You are up against a bad card (unlikely) or some weird compatibility issue. No good suggestions - sorry :(. Unless an R3/765m users says it works for them then I have to say it can't be done - and yes this makes no sense since the 780m is fine but...

Just had a thought, maybe NV introduced some testing of UEFI code in that card. The R3 BIOS could fail seeing this code? The R4 was UEFI compliant (after bios R08). UEFI is messing up a ton of upgrades with the 9xx cards.

Well, If it has been done then apart from a faulty card we'd need to look at exactly what they did.

What BIOS version and what changes from default?

What VBios version are they running. You'd need to put the card back in the M18x to get this info.

If all this matches then a faulty card has to be the main suspect. If you sort out any mismatches and it still will not POST then something on the MB is just not happy and you may never get to the bottom of it :(

    Fingers crossed...
