I got my M17xR3 on the 31st of March (had to chase the delivery person though some of the worst weather we have had) I opened it up and started it on the 2nd of April.
On April 4th I got 2 BSOD's about 6 hours apart, I was no where near the PC heard it reboot and got access to the mini dump files.
I then contacted support, they uninstalled the video driver, ran driver sweeper, downloaded the 3/31/2011 driver from the web site.
Now I find it odd that in device manager the driver date is 12/2/2010 version 8.800.6.0 but in the Catalyst Control Center it shows the current version;
Driver Packaging Version 8.80.6-101202a-109902C-Dell
I was told this is nothing but a typo
This is right out of the Catalyst Control Center
Title : Video:AMD Radeon HD 6970M Driver
Version : A00
OEM Name : AMD
OEM Ver : 8.80.6-101202a-109902C-Dell.4
Computers : Alienware Laptop - M17xR3
Now jump to the 10th of April another BSOD I call support they do the uninstall re-install of the video driver again although this time the mini dump file did not name a driver or address. Also while on the phone with tech support this is where the BIOS is weird (to me) the tech of course had me enter the BIOS by pressing F2 of course but once we got into the BIOS I was at the time format screen and could not use my arrow keys nor could I use the page up or page down keys, the tech had no idea.
I hit the escape key and in doing so it took me to the Main Tab. That session ended poorly. I called back later and spoke with another tech and they claim that is standard on the M17xR3 that when you go into the BIOS you have to hit the ESC key...I guess I'm confused why ESC said to Exit not to hit ESC to enter the Main Tab.
Does anyone have any ideas on this matter?
AW is calling tomorrow at noon to confirm there are no more BSOD, I told them they could call but seeing as how I had 2 in one day then none for 6 days I would NOT consider the issue resolved only after 2 days. I am still questioning the typo in the video drivers and the ESC key to enter the Main Tab in order to get into the BIOS.
If there is a glitch...I'll find them.
Also had a box on the screen wanting me to visit the web site the box was only about 1/4 visable, again tech support, no ideas (I was told it would go away in a few day...(rolling my eyes) so after they hung up I changed the screen resolution which made the message totally visable I clicked DO NOT REMIND ME....SO that is fixed. If anyone has that problem (hope that helps) at least I managed to solve that one.
Any help pleaeeeeeeeeeeease and thank you.

Sorry if I am bumping this to soon, any ideas at all :/

Sounds like the system is kinda bad in terms of Quality on arrival.
And that box sounds like a virus to me, Perhaps a full reinstall will be required...
If it's anything to you, getting a good, intelligent tech occurs once in a blue moon. You need to be firm with them.
They've had me reinstall 7 times in total.....I hate Dellienware so much lol. -
Thanks for replying, my thoughts also, going to try and get a hold of the guy who I dealt with in the begining, going to email him a copy of this issue.
The box on the screen was (AW) theirs, I was told it would go away, in 3-4days...I resolved the issue on my own by changing the screen resolution, that brought the AW box onto the screen where I could click on the DO NOT REMIND ME AGAIN tab. I suggested that to the tech while on the phone and he dismissed it....after we hung up I just went with my idea. It has not returned...surely I can not be the only M17xR3 owner out there with these issues???
I already did a restore to factory default, I have had nothing on this PC except for diagnostic software...bummer. -
Did you ever get your issues resolved?
After all my XPS's the now the AW I could re-install 7 with my eyes closed LOL
M17xR3 BIOS and BSOD thoughts and help please!
