Title says it all. Been up from 12am - 5am just figuring out what the problem is yet still no solution.

Just bought an m4 crucial 128gb. decided to put it in bay 1(the free bay)hdd still left at bay 0. Tried installing it for the first time.

In the "Updating Windows" part of the clean install
which is probably part 4, i get this error message:

Windows cannot copy files from G:\Sources to E:\Windows....
The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the isntallation. Error code: 0x80070017.

After that, I get this bootmgr is missing error.

    What I tried:

Tried clean install with two drives many times
Tried clean install with only ssd in bay 0 many times

Now I don't know what to do. Need help guys

EDIT: If it helps, I use my Windows 7 Ultimate disc provided by Alienware. 64bit

Currently downloading an windows 7 ultimate iso gonna try doing a boot from a flash drive.

That error code seems to relate to bad media. Is the OS disc damaged in any way? - have you been able to use the Dell OS media successfully before? - try the USB install method, as mentioned, and hopefully that will work. If your OS disc is damaged, maybe you could contact Dell and have a replacement issued for future use.

Not much signs of a damaged CD, just a few scratches here and there. I tried clean installing once but it was on my HDD about 3-4 months ago and it was pretty successful. After this post, ima try to reboot using my flash drive.

Well, I guess a couple of minor scratches can make an optical disc useless, especially if the optical dive is trying to read installation files from it that are required. That's probably the problem - hope the USB method works fine for you instead.

okay, just bought a 4gb drive and made a windows 7 boot flash drive.

One thing I noticed is that its install is faster than the CD.

Anyways, I got it all sorted out, installed all drivers no problem, I guess the CD was just the problem. Could I get another copy of it from dell for free?

Side note: I was really impressed by the disk's performance (128gb m4). Very fast disk. I Recommend this upgrade to anyone who still uses HDD.

    Thanks for your help guys.

I imagine that you could get a new OS disc from Dell - it's not like they are giving you something you don't already have the right to have. Yours is obviously damaged - ask 'em for a replacement - nothing to lose.

Yeah, install from USB is a LOT faster because of the tranfser rates of USB ports vs. the ODD. The M4's are nice drives - glad you got things sorted out and are pleased with it's performance. Beats a traditional HDD hands down, eh? :D

I'm glad you got it sorted out.I was pretty certain that the issue was the media. :)

Yeah was pretty shocked the first time i restarted it. Although I might have another problem, when I restart it its really fast however once it goes to the point that it shuts down, it stays there a for a couple secs.
The BIOS takes a bit long to load. I'll get a video of it if you don't understand.

yep, ill never use cd's again if its possible to use a flash drive. Not worth the mini heart attacks

You can probably adjust the "wait to kill" service to close programs/apps etc to speed up shutdown - mine takes a couple of seconds too. Point number 14 on this guide: The SSD Optimization Guide Redesigned | The SSD Review shows you how to do that - you might want to have a look through some of the other tweaks too.

    Yep currently doing it atm.

Btw, after I installed my SSD on startup, BIOS lets me choose which "WINDOWS 7" would I boot to (ssd or hdd). After I formated my HDD, i thought that it would directly boot to my SSD since there are no more w7 files in it. However, I could still choose option 2.

How can I remove this so that it would automatically boot into my ssd?
