Was the SATA 3 confirmed? I know there was debate over that.

I did order with just one 320GB hard drive and I use that as the second hard drive in the system.

If I were to get an SSD I would wait for the Intel Gen 3 or the Vertex 3. Then either get that or get one of the older generation drives at a discount.

It has been confirmed that the sata 3 and sata 2 ports are on 2 different pll's and the sata 2 pll is the one with the defect. That is why the sata 3 ports are unaffected

We still have to hear an official word from dell concerning the sandy bridge processor and the R3 models, but seeing as how they removed the model for sale online, it probably is a real issue.

sorry for these noob questions, but how did you transfer your OS from the 320GB hdd to the SSD? Or did the R3 come with a windows installation disk, and you used that on the SSD?

Drake- Just wanted to know about the status lights. Is the HDD light easily seen? Also, the location of the Wifi/Bluetooth light. Thanks for all the great info, pics, and videos.

    Lets not derail drake's thread.

If you want to talk about the keyboard and Mandrake's video, do it in a thread where everyone can see it/find it.

For you new members, review the forum rules - DO NOT post in a language other than english without providing a word for word translation. Further posts not including a translation will be removed. I've already touched on this with some of you.

    Thanks.

So Mandrake, ask for a refund or wait for them to fix it? I haven't decided yet. Maybe the 485 will be ready with the re-launch...

You mean 6970? right? I don't believe a 485 was ever announced, and knowing Dell's Conservative approach on heat, I don't actually expect to see a 485. But in any case if it were to show up, I'm sure the price would be quite high for it. And sadly it would be a necessity for true 3d Gaming, as the 460 isn't really holding to par on such a nice screen at 1080.

Is the trackpad an annoyance while gaming? It's looks like your palm would rest on the trackpad.

My return has been processed, oh well. Looks like I have to wait a couple more months to upgrade. I think the biggest thing I will miss is the 3D gaming.

    ta-ta for now...

Mandrake, why did you return it? Dell warranty will cover the mobo replace.

Did they charge you the 15% restock fee?

Mandrake (or others who installed the SSD as an OS drive),

I'm a little baffled here. Installed an Intel X25-M SSD (120G) in the HD0 slot and moved the spinner to HD1. BIOS shows them in appropriate order (switched SATA to AHCI but even RAID showed them the right way) but Windows keeps insisting that the spinner is the disk 0 while the SSD is disk 2.

How did it work for you?

Mainly for the Sandy Bridge issue. I don't want a mobo replacement on a new system....that's just me. The fact that the default Dell video drivers don't work kind of annoys me as well.

No restocking fee when the issue isn't your fault.

So are you saying you're done with the R3 and moving onto something else?

The new Clevo machine does look nice but i don't think i will ever use a chiclet keyboard again.

I know you've started the return process on your r3, but I was hoping you could help me out.
I'm having the same issue with my Vertex2. Currently reinstalling OS on momentus HDD in AHCI mode. After that, just pop in vertex2, toolbox as admin, firmware, re-re-install OS (on SSD)?

You know it was only 5 years ago that you would get an additional 10% off for trying to cancel your PC the day it shipped. They would say "Are you sure that you don't want it? Isn't there anyone you know that would be willing to buy it from you if I could get you a 10% discount."

    Those days are long gone...
