When I open my R3 lid from the middle it makes a noise as if it's a bit loose. When the lid is up and you push down on the top (above the webcam) there's a bit of 'play'. Is that weird.?

hmm, mines not really that bad just seems the frame around the glass at the top middle is slightly loose. don't think i want to go through the trouble of getting it fixed cause it's otherwise perfect. Just wondering if it's a common issue or not.

I have a similar issue, the parts in that area are not tight and "squeek" or make a noise when I lift the lid. I suspect it is fairly common but as you say, it's not worth the hassle to mess with.

My hinge squeaks but i only noticed it after I was specifically listening for it. not worth getting repaired in my opinion. ;)

Not sure about how you feel but if I spend $1500-2500 on lap top I expect stuff to be perfect. I've had mine for 2 weeks and had enough problems with it that Dell has finally fixed everything as well as given me an upgrade from 4 to 16GB of RAM for free. Sometimes making sure things are right is good!

That is what happened to me originally. Instead of removing the two bottom screws and sliding the lid off correctly he just pried it from the lcd with a screwdriver! After this snafu Dell sent the wrong replacement parts 3 times. Today will be the 4th and final time the tech has come out in 2 weeks and they sent an LCD, Lid, Palm Rest, LED unit (for the alien head on the lid), and 16GB of RAm for my troubles. The tech was very polite but it took be 4 times to get someone from dell tech support who could help me. It also never hurt to ask for their supervisor!

I just had an optical drive replaced and the guy pried up the keyboard with a screwdriver to get under it looking for screws. Then he asked me if I had the accidental damage warranty and advised me if I did I could get it replaced for free. Instead of getting into with him I played stupid so he would go back to Dell an ty and cover his tracks before I could get tech support back on the phone and send them pics of the hack job. The whole reason I let a tech do it was because I didn't ant to disassemble th keyboard incase I scre up... back fired. Then Dell wants me to mail away my laptop for a week to some repair center in Dallas... An hour later we agreed two NEXT DAY AIR UPS trips and a week with their techs was more expensive than a new tech bring out new keyboard for me. BTW that guy was in and out in under 15 mins and it's good as new. The last support guy really did have a sense of urgency and seemed to care and the last tech was a pro. So I'm satisfied but I'm with, first time I've ever said this, the "UnshavenBag" that if I'm throwing down the cash I expect great service.

@Aunty June, If it's not a big deal, and it doesn't bother you, I would wait it out. BUT make sure to call Dell before your warranty expires and get it replaced by them. Last thing you want is for it to break two weeks after your warranty expires, as it's costly to extend your warranty after purchasing, and even more so to get a warranty once the original is expired. Keep it in the back of your mind.

yeah, it's not that bad. Plus, i hear too many horror stories of techs hacking up your computers, scratches etc. In my case, it's certainly not worth it.
