I installed the 11.11 driver from amd without (geocake's method) since dell is too lazy to update! Everything is working fine I still have the option to change to the integrated card.. but dxdiag is showing my vram as 720mb as opposed to 1024mb and the card is detected as 6800m. Running the same driver version as geo 8.911.1.0

    Trixx - it's the best

That method was only for 11.11a since it was broken thanks to the idiots at AMD :p Dxdiag always shows 250mb less for me, it's broken as well aparently (google search the issue)...

I've just noticed that there is a new (BETA) driver on DELL's site for the 6970/6990 cards. It's with version 8.902-P06 and is from 8th of December, 2011. Unfortunately, I was not able to download it, because the link is broken (good job DELL).

    Hi,

One simple questions : is it possible to install Ati driver (from the amd website) without installing befor the Dell driver (I don't care of the IGP) ?

I tested to install de ati driver without installing the Dell driver and the system always tells me that there is no proper hardware ... but it detect the 6990m.

    The system is m17x-r3

Tks a lot for you help because I am a bit lost

    @Cr1c3n
    1. My original DELL driver is this one:
    http://downloads.dell.com/video/R309894.exe

    2. Install 11.11a over original DELL using "Custom" option in the installer and select drivers ONLY option (this means to remove the checkboxes from everything else that you can).
Here's a link to the 11.11a "hotfix" drivers (many thanks to GeoCake for this):
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/catalyst_11.11_hotfixes/amd_catalyst_11.11a_windows_vista_7.exe

If you get into trouble with BSOD follow original GeoCake's method:

    Cheers!

Well I was installing 11.12 18th Nov beta and I got a BSOD after express install... I just restarted and reinstalled again and it fixed it so probably don't need to do all that xP

I have no idea where these BSODs come from

    Hi everyone,

Just looking for an info, what are the idle clocks of HD6990M of M17x R3 ? I read lots of different: some encountered 250/900, others 400/900. On mine, I had 100/150 first, then now, i sent back it due to lots of problems for a standard exchange, but could you confirm or tell what you have.

    Thx a lot.

At 100% idle, my clocks are 100/150, but if i do anything that involves the gpu, like opening up a browser etc, it jumps to 400/900. Then drops back down to 100/150 while i'm reading the webpage

If you have an external monitor connected then clocks will be higher.

You could use Trixx/equivalent to lower them a little

Thx for answers, and i just got a message from Dell, there was a problem on the MB, so it's a good thing for me this standard exchange. Also, when changing freq memory for OC, i encountered a light flickering in the screen. And some guys reported 250/900 on freq, so there is a problem ...

Hi guys, I just got an R3 with the 6870m and I was wondering if you could tell me if these are the latest drivers: (Diablo 3 Beta said that they're not)

    Driver Packaging Version 8.851.2-110609a-120503C-Dell
    Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
    2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1152
    2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000
    Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0833
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.10765
    Catalyst Control Center Version 2011.0609.2331.40394

I tried going to the AMD site and updating, but it says it won't download because the card is not supported. Is that because Dell drivers come factory installed, not AMD? Sorry, I'm pretty new when it comes to these things. What should I do?

This is an old threat... it doesn't have the latest drivers; my favorite and best way (imo) to update drivers is this french site Easily explore your PC , just hit the Run the Detection button and install the device detecting software if prompted and when the scan is finished hit Download drivers compatible with this configuration; then a page will be displayed with your hardware and their respective latest drivers
