I'm just wondering if everyone elses laptop seems to take up 1-2gb memory on idle, I only have 4gb of ram but I sometimes get lag spikes when operating my desktop or running my internet browser/skype. Wondering if there's an issue with my laptop or if I need more memory.

On a side note, I've been reading about the initial throttle of the 580m that occurs around the high 60C temps when theres a lot of power consumption, will that affect my games? I noticed that it does this on Furmark and sometimes my games lag for a brief period of time maybe 30 seconds where fps drops to 5. It happens less now that I have the back of my laptop propped up.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!
*edit Hmm, sorry I can't quite figure out how to take a screenshot in furmark, when I use the ctrl printscreen function it always gives me the same image. For extra information, the max temperature reached is only 65C and lowest is 54C

you should not be getting any lag spikes from internet browsing or skype. 4 gigs is enoughf for those activities. Do you have any processes running behind the scenes that's sucking up your available ram?
Also, i'd install the latest vbios update from Dell and update your 580m...it makes things much better with the throttling
In my experience lag spikes are common when a driver has gone awry. A simple vid card driver reinstall can alleviate the lag spikes
