I've had my Alienware system Since 12/6/2011 and has worked fine. Then I noticed my Hard Drive was getting filled and couldn't find the reason, Looked through all files and found nothing. Got so frusterated I pulled out the Windows 7 CD and did a Fresh Install of Windows. Applied all Driver's through there website dell.support.com/alienware and all was good again yay! But then I noticed something, The system is EXTREMELY ******** HOT!! I said ok, looked at bottom fans where spinning fine, Im also using a cooling Pad. Hardware is Fine, looked into software seems fine. But im idling temperatures are at about 70-90 Celsius. Now here are my Specs
CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
MOTHERBOARD - Alienware M17xR3
BIOS - InsydeH2O Version 1.0 A08
MEMORY - 8.00 GB
HDD - ST95005620AS
SOUNDCARD -IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
GRAPHICS - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M///Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1
Now I called Alienware Support and there Sending a Repair Tech to my house sometime this week to re-paste and New Fan/Heat-sink. But I know thats not the problem, Has anyone encountered a OverHeating Problem After a Fresh Install of windows? From what I also noticed was, Core 1 and mabe 2 would MAX OUT when even playing minecraft. These two cores are going crazy, and All other cores are the same too. I run things that are not that dependant on CPU power and it seems like Every Task I run it like Opening 10,000 Fraps at once. I need this fixed because its Uncomfortable to sit and play HoN or League or anything anymore. It feels like a hotrock. I hope someone can help because im getting so annoyed trying to fix this issue.

Take a look at this article for overheating... And... Did you follow this easy steps to install Windows and the list of the drivers and the proper order listed at the bottom?
Try flashing the BIOS to the latest version BTW. -
I'm going to leave my Skype name here for all to contact me.

This is a community-driven support forum. I doubt anyone is going to contact you on Skype. Also, it was probably "filling up" due to a virus of some sort. I've been seeing that a lot lately.

It's hard to believe someone would actually leave their IM here...
I personally don't think it's due to virus. Assuming he only has 1 HDD and does not partition it, he probably formatted it when reinstalling Windows. It would be hard to believe some viruses could be left after that. I'm thinking there might some faulty with the CPU/mobo or may be the thermal itself. Of course, I can be wrong.
After the Dell rep comes, if he can't fix it, update this post with his response and some people may be able to help you out. -

Use processxp or maybe windows' built in system monitoring to try and identify the process that is eating up CPU and I/O's...that should narrow down the possible culprits very quickly.
-
Virus's are and were not the Case. I did the system monitoring and it seems normal, CPU at 30% but cores are at 50-100% Heat around 60c-90c while idling.I will be sure to take notes on what the rep says and tell you all here, Im hoping this problem will be fixed. But with my luck the thing's probably going back to the factory unless I can get help
-
@OP: The best thing you can possibly hope for is the rep brings extra CPU/ mobo components. Otherwise, you would have to send it back. Good luck.

Seems to me it's either the thermal paste or a wrecked heatsink. With the technicians notes we'll be able to help you further
