So i currently have 6GB RAM on my laptop and would like to upgrade (maybe even max out at 32GB not that i need it but so i don't have to worry about it). What brands should i look at and is there anything i should be aware of when upgrading the RAM? I don't use the laptop much for extreme gaming, mainly for work and light gaming.

    Thoughts?

Since you use the system mainly for work stuff and light gaming, you could choose 2 4GB sticks at 1333MHz (validated speed) or if you have the extra cash 4 4GB sticks at 1333MHz. Remember that if you want to add more Ram than that, you'll need to upgrade Windows to Professional or Ultimate, assuming you have Home Premium.

Kingston HyperX and Corsair Vengeance are two models that are widely used by many members here and are known to work flawlessly with the R3.

Wait, I ordered 4 x 4gb at 1600 MHz with Win 7 Home Premium. Will the OS handle this?

I've read of users who have installed up to 16GB at 1600Mhz on an M17xR3 without an issue. But that hasn't been validated by Dell though :)

Yup, it does. Above 16GB you need Pro or Ultimate but W7HP will handle the 16Gb without a problem.
