I have an r3, that when at home I have plugged into an external keyboard and mouse. However if I leave the mouse and keyboard plugged in and reset the laptop, or turn it off and then back on takes forever to boot. The only way to bypass this is to unplug the keyboard and mouse before the laptop boots, which is very annoying. I have the latest bios, has anyone else experienced this?

Hello, unfortunately it's a known 'issue' and not only with the M17x R3.
These slowdowns are sometimes caused by USB devices with NAND memory etc.

If your hard drive containing the OS is the first on the boot list and you're still having a slow boot, you're best bet is to plug your mouse and keyboard after the windows animation. An alternative would be to plug both of them to a USB hub, this way you'll have only one cable to plug every time. -
What mouse & keyboard are you using? I'm guessing if one of the devices has onboard memory like some gaming accessories, the M17x might think there is an OS inside & try to boot from it.It happened to me when I was using SteelSeries Xai mouse. The only way was to plug it out before bootup & plug back when you reach the welcome screen.

I don't have this issue with my R3. Check in the BIOS if your OS drive is first in the boot order.

Don't have issues with my keyboard and mouse (Razer Blackwidow Ultimate + Logitech G700). Only happens sporadically with USB flash drives plugged in and even then, strangely enough, only specific drives will do this; namely Corsair Voyager 32GB USB 3.0 and a 16GB PICO Drive. My Patriot XPorter 8GB USB 2.0 doesn't have this problem though.
Sometimes machine will fail to boot (flashing cursor, no POST) if I left a device charging via the eSATA/USB port. As soon as it's pulled off the eSATA port, the machine will continue to boot as normal (no power down required). -
OS drive is already the 1st in BIOS boot priority when this issue occurred.Posted this problem some time ago but no response.SteelSeries also acknowledged this problem & their solution is to either update our BIOS or perform the plug in plug out procedure.Strangely enough,my other gaming mice also with onboard memory does not have this problem.Sadly,SteelSeries do not seem to have any intention of updating the Xai firmware after releasing the Sensei.
M17xR3 VERY slow boot when USB devices plugged in...
