So I have an R3 with a 2630qm, a 460m and twin hybrid momentus XT's. I purchased two of the 8gb plug and play kingston hyperx 1600 sets. (4 - 4gb chips in all) After installing them i disabled the windows page file. About 20 minutes later I got a rapid bluescreen with what looked like a memory location list....a series of zeros and some letters mixed in, it flashed so fast I didnt get to read it, it immediately restarted.

So I turned the page file back on and set it at 800mb. Then I OC'd my graphics card a bit and started gaming. And after about an hour the computer shut off, just like if you had unplugged the cord on a desktop, everything went black, and then after a few moments it started back up.

Ive had the reset happen two more times since then, once while surfing the net, and another again while gaming.

I have the unlocked bios, with settings from the overclocking guide.
And I installed the memory and havent changed anything, everything was correct in the bios on the first boot.
    Any Ideas?

Sounds like you have a defective memory stick. Try removing them one at a time and see if the problem stops, if so you have found your defective stick. Could also be a bad memory module socket. Did this ever happen before the upgraded memory?

Never happened before. But then again the front two sockets never had anything in the, either. Isnt there a test I can let the computer run that will test the sticks sector by sector?

What brand of sticks were already in your R3 to which you added to the HyperX's? If different, maybe you should use HWiNFO to look at the timing charts and make a custom profile in the BIOS reflecting the more conservative or some compromise of the two. Use the memory test in the BIOS and run memtest.

the sticks that were in it were the factory hynix sticks (6gb) Would I need to install the old sticks to view the timing on them, or would that be well known data already? ill try out the mem test tonight

No need to take out the old ram. HWINFO will give info on each module, I'm just not sure if the timings are based on what's read in the SPD for each stick or just applied on all as I'm not sure whether the memory controller can apply different timings on separate banks (my guess is no).

Dave, I replaced the factory sticks, so I only have hyperx in all 4 banks now. No mix and match.

I ran the bios mem test last night and it caused the computer to shut off like it had before. So then I ran the windows memory diagnostic extended test. 8hours later it was frozen at 94%complete. I rebooted, and started the test again, 9 hours later I had a black screen with a blinking alienhead like the computer was busy. i had to reboot to get it to respond, it then rolled into windows recovery and said it was unable to repair the startup files. Reboot again, and its been running the rest of the evening no problem, but I havent been doing anything on it.

Ill download that software, I was just talking to a budy who said there was a program that could analyze the crash dump file.

Crash have you run memtest86 on your new sticks? This will tell you definitively if your new ram is bad.

You can also set in your bios to profile XMP2 to see if that helps with your stability

I did crash dump, it only has one recent dump file from the 19th which Im assuming was that rapid bluescreen that Ive only seen once. And it has the ntoskrnl listed, with KMODE exception not handled as the bugcheck name.

Ill try memtest86 and changing to xmp2

I ran memtest86, the first time it cruised along, then it had 24 errors, then 129 errors, then it jumped to 400 errors and locked up. Let it sit for quite a while before rebooting and trying again. This time it locked up without ever having a recorded error.

ill try again this afternoon after I get back from work. How can you tell which stick is having the problems in memtest? It doesnt list a slot, just addresses.

I just installed 16GB of 1867MHz dual-channel RAM running at 10-10-10-27 timings from a no-name supplier... Everything seemed to run fine at the default XMP mode but after a few minutes the laptop would spontaneously shut-down, no blue-screen or anything. I switched over the XMP2 and just on a hunch I increased the voltage to 1.55V. It has been fine for hours so far but I'll run Memtest86 overnight before leaving judgement. If it's kosher, this thing rips at much less $$ than HyperX and Vengence sticks. By accident I ordered 2 sets of 16GB and it was too late to cancel one. Cross my fingers Memtest86 will have good news for me tomorrow morning.

    Good night all!

That'd be nice. I ended up pulling two of the chips and running memtest, it passed, then put one stick back in and it failed. So i swapped it with the other stick and it passed, then to rule out the other slot, i moved the good chip to the other slot and ran it again. All is well.

So I have one bad chip, I got ahold of newegg, and they can only swap it if i send back two modules, and i will miss out on the rebate. So i need to get ahold of kingston and see if they will swap out one stick and allow me to send in the rebates.
