am i the only one that has issues with this machine waking up to a blank desktop, for a while it works then for no apparent reason it refuses to show me anything but a blank screen, it is obviously started as it responds to keypresses etc but the only way i can get round this is to do the big reset.....then w7 messese up and all my website login info etc dissapears, is this a W7 issue or Nvidia or W7 or what........................

I have tried everything to try and rectify this issue - reseting power plans etc etc.....................W7 is a failure. all this on top of the wifi issues i.e. unidentified network along with the one i'm connected to requireing me to reset my wifi card.........................i'm now venting my frustrations with this computer and OS

Sounds like a Windows issue, when was your last fresh install? More info would be needed to clarify. SSDs also cause this type of problem sometimes but according to your signature you don't have one.

I had that problem on my first R3 and i think i could get the screen to come back on by adjusting the brightness or something that will trigger the OSD...

That was on a fresh install but the factory OS never exhibited that problem.

Set your resolution to 60Hz and you will have no issues with resuming from S3. This only impacts the R3 120Hz screen configurations. Not sure if the 580M has this issue but the 460M does. The driver of choice on the R3 NV based system should be the current NV Reference driver.

If you need to switch over to 3D (since your system supports it), then change the resolution first and enable 3D. In your start menu, you'll find handy shortcuts which can be 'Pinned' to your start menu - Enable and Disable 3D Vision. They are located in the NVIDIA --> 3DVision directory.

I know AW Engineering is aware of this issue and hopefully, we'll see a fix at some point. Unfortunately, this is the only work-around at present.

+1 rep BatBoy, I have been having this issue as well.

Seeing as how I am a self-proclaimed technical expert however, I could not bring myself to ask for help and instead have driven myself nuts trying to troubleshoot the issue! Even so, I still love this laptop :D.

as it happens I'm viewing my laptop on my 46" Samsung HD TV and currently have 3D turned off with refresh rate set at 601080p 60hz, 2 mins ago it just wakened from a sleep state without issue, this problem seems to be random, sometimes it will work for a few days then stop working, I have been unable to see a pattern i.e. programs I've been using or the like, a search on google reviels that many people on various platforms have this problem with W7 so it's just an added complication with AW R3 3D, I am using the latest NV driver so that doesn't seem to be the issue either...........it's just a right pain.

ok I think I have found the solution for this, turn off "intel Virtualisation" in the bios, this seems to have fixed everything.

just keeping this to the top in case people missed it as I think this is a very annoying issue that has now been fixed - well it was for me - very frustrating - perhaps even a short sticky might be a good idea

Merged your last post with your previous - we only permit thread 'bumping' every 24 hours.

If you are still having resume issues after setting the resolution as I outlined 5 posts up, try it without connecting to your TV. I'm betting this has to do with the external display being connected as setting the resolution to 60Hz completely resolves the issue with the laptop display. Its an NV driver issue.

mate this issue is there no matter if I'm stand alone or connected to external monitor and is more widespread than you think, I have posted the solution for this issue i.e. when waking up from sleep or hibernate the screen is blank and the system requires a hard reboot.

I have seen the same thing every once in a while on my rig and it only has a 900p screen. I have no idea why and it appears completely random :(

ok let me descibe this issue in more detail

when I put my W7 system to sleep or hybernate regardless of external or internal screen - when I try to restart - the screen is blank - the system starts but there is nothing on the screen - it has obviously wakened up as everything is working except the screen is blank, it doesn't matter if I'm in 60hz or 120hz or external screen or laptop panel - it is all the same ....blank screen, many other people have experienced this issue on laptops and desktops - 3D none 3D machines and the fix for it is to disable the "intel virtualisation" in the bios, this also fixed some wifi issues I was having where I would switch wifi networks in my location (where i have multiple connections) and get the "unrecognised network error"

Just disable this thing in the bios as it seems it causes a lot of crap......

personally I believe this is not a Dell issue but a W7/intel/bios issue and due to the extent that I have seen on the net - it deserves a sticky, it would certaintly have save me days of messing around and frustration to find the solution on here with a sticky titled "sleep wake up blank screen"

well thanks for that as this has bugged the hell out of me for days even weeks, my system worked perfectly until I had this issue, I don't know if you guys realise that when you do a hard reset on these systems you loose passwords and many other system settings that you take months to set up and trust, not sure why that happens either but I'd prefer just to waken up from a perfect sleep and not have to hold the power button for 10secs cause it's a whole lot of pain....

just disable that thing right out of the box.........
