    I have been using the un-modded .2040 the whole time with no issues. Also if you modded the .2039, then you did not mod the latest version or are you just saying you spliced .2039 with .2040?

    Thanks for the Win8.1 tip. What version is your Control Panel? For the purpose of comparing notes, here is my version.

    @Mr. Fox It's the same version, SBRIDELL_PCDRV_LB_1_00_2040.exe (7.78 MB Installer / 12.3 MB uncompressed) won't install the Creative control panel with microsoft drivers or Creative v6.0.100.2040 previously installed from microsoft update catalog, C:\Windows\SysWOW64\CtHdaCtl.dll (v6.0.100.2040) is the creative driver CPL .dll for (x86)\Creative\Sound Blaster Recon3Di\Sound Blaster Recon3Di Control Panel\SBRcni.exe which has its own updater, not for CtHdaCtl.dll driver only.

    Could you check the folder size under C:\Program Files (x86)\Creative\Sound Blaster Recon3Di\Sound Blaster Recon3Di Control Panel 28.4 MB (29,865,779 bytes) ?

    Yeah I replaced the drivers folders, SBRIDELL_PCDRV_LB_1_00_2040.exe didn't install the control panel.

    Same here... but my folder is smaller. If you have created any custom profiles for EQ and other things that could be part of the reason. I seldom use it and haven't tweaked anything in the Control Panel.

    Code:
    [Version]
    SoftwareSubPath = Sound Blaster Recon3Di Control Panel
    SoftwareID = SOUND_BLASTER_RECON3DI_CONTROL_PANEL
    SoftwareVersion = 1.02.26
    SoftwareFriendlyName = Sound Blaster Recon3Di Control Panel

    [Extra Info]
    Build=02
    You can do a custom installation of an older driver with the Control Panel and remove the check mark from the drivers so that only the Control Panel is installed since the driver from the Micro$oft Update Catalog does not include the Control Panel.

    FWIW: Didn't bother installing the creative bloatware on my system, just the basic creative driver in the Creative - Audio - Sound Blaster Recon3Di\Audio_Creative_W814_X01_Setup-4T7P8_ZPE\program files\Creative\Sound Blaster Recon3Di\Drivers folder

    Does that new 2014 driver install on Windows 8.1? I try to go to device manager and tell it to find the driver in the folder I downloaded from the update catalog, but it just says my driver (from 2013) is up to date.

    Go to the Windows Update Catalog, type Recon3Di in the search field and you will see a list of available drivers, including this new one. Unfortunately, you will have to use Internet Explorer for this because the good browsers (Chrome and Firefox) won't work with the Windows Update Catalog.

    Download it, then extract the contents of the " AMD64_X86-zh-tw_de_en_es_fr_it_ko_nl_pt-br_zh-cn_pt_ja-nec-20657642_639467f23696937eaa62345ea2f62158aacbbc6c.cab" file into a new folder.

    Rather than expecting Windows to find it automatically, use the "Have Disk" method in Device Manager and browse to the folder with the new drivers.

    I posted something new in this thread that might be of interest to anyone having issues with this bug. Not sure it will help, but it may.

    Latest Recon3Di Drivers w/ proper IDs. DriverVer=09/30/2014, 6.0.100.2052 (DriverStore).

    Device manager -> uninstall all creative devices (check delete software) -> "scan for hardware changes" -> re-install using have disk method.

    The sound quality is better, but they need to update the control panel service/compatibility mode delay.

    I'm not allowed to upload the zip file, 2.0MB limit. Even 1.99MB -> Sound Blaster Recon3Di Drivers M14xR2 / M17xR4 / M18xR2

    Tried to do this...
    Did not work, as every single driver update I try to find says that it cannot find the device.

    So now I have crappy sound coming from my laptop.
    Any thoughts???

    Your Creative sound card is probably dead... Do stock drivers also not work?
