Hey everybody. The other day i decided hey why not upgrade some stuff on the laptop since i have been using it more on traveling and sitting in hotels...now i had to idea what i was in for. Not as easy as building my PC it seems. The biggest thing to me that has me scratching my head is the screen. Currently i have 1080p 60hz with GTX680m. I would really like to get a 1440p 120hz but how the heck do i make sure it will fit the laptop? I found alot of out dated posts and what not also. So i figured why not make a new post and get some updated info from you all. I seen posts about the GTX1060 working in this laptop but you gotta have atleast 120hz screen so i plan on getting the card also when i get the screen. What Panel do you all recommend?

Unless I missed something 1440p will not work on that laptop, but you can of course get the 1080p120hz panel.

Sell your M17X and buy a new laptop, the performance gained over what you will get over the 1060 in the M17X R4 will be a fair bit, along with the possibility of getting a 6c/8c CPU if you find a decent deal

he can use the 1070 @ 200w if he wanted to in that laptop, which the number of machines that can do that can be counted on one hand.

And how many games can you achieve 120Fps with a 4 core CPU?
LoL, CS:GO, Fortnite, DoTA and a couple more MOBA's/TCG's, run BF on it, or Anthem, or PUBG, or anything multiplayer FPS and the CPU wont be able to achieve 120Fps..

PUBG is a slapped together crap game over run with cheaters, Anthem isnt even worth mentioning. BattleField is a single title and I had no issues running that game near max settings, but I dont really care for Battlefield personally anymore, its been on a downward trend for years, just one persons opinion though, I know that others enjoy it.

There are literally thousands of games the 1070 can run above or near 120FPS.

I had no issues running Siege above 120FPS as well and I used to play that game daily with my CPU at 3.2Ghz let alone 4.0Ghz with the 4930mx and that title is particularly brutal on quads, however now the game supports Vulkan.

Just for fun I used to run dead Space 2 at 4K and I would still get 120FPS, I would run Windwaker at 4K with mod textures, I would run Mass Effect 2 with mods at 4k120, I meant to play xenoblade chronicles @4k with mod textures but never got around to it.

Multiplayer isnt the be all end all of entertainment, far from it.

Yeah as someone already said buy a new laptop, already 1660 beats the 1070 120W card, not by much but still.
1070 is the only viable upgrade you be wasting your money on the 1060.
You be better off with a 5500M/1650 in this case if 1060 performance is good enough for you.
Also what CPU do you have in it?
