Any news on when the R4 will be released?

 

I'm waiting for the M17x R ∞ to upgrade. 0.1nm tech, Quad GPUS, 14 core super double hyperthreading CPU at 8GHz (12GHz turbo boost)

But to answer your question, no, no news.

Imma be so pissed if I can't get the 6xx series on my laptop. It's not even 4 months old, haha

 

Nvidia released their newest version of the 560 Ti which has 448 shaders as opposed to 384.

The 580m GTX has 384 shaders, how much anyone wanna bet that the 680m will have 448?

 

Hmm, I'm hoping a BIOS update will come and let us use Ivy Bridge. As well as 7000m being MXM 3.0 Type B

 

That would be a 16% performance improvement. Not bad, but nothing like the 50% improvement that going from a 5870m to a 6970m is.

Yea, that wouldn't be a bad increase. Then 580m owners wouldn't feel it's neccessary to upgrade. At least the ones that don't bench

 

According to the performance charts though the 680m GTX performs over 50% quicker than the 580m - 13300 vs 21000 in Vantage. However the 22nm fabrication probably allows really high clock speeds as well as the added shaders. I really don't want there to be an R4 any time soon.

Dell, if you are around, read this: we want a bios update to support the new CPUs and GPUs when the time comes. Not another revision.

I'm watching this closely also...cause the wife is naggin me to get a new computer everyday (so she can get my R3). Now you guys might think i have it made, but the naggin is terrible...and i can't get a new computer until the new GPUs and CPU's come out

 

Dude I wish I was in your shoes, any time I turn to walk into the computer room, she's in a bad mood. I barely have like 24 hours on BF3! Purchased it the day it released. I game maybe two hours a week. I have to tread lightly

 

that's me here! I also think it will be a minor increase as 28nm is already very bugged in production at TSMC, I don't think they can stress the chips with even more power right now...

i'm lucky because she's a gamer herself and a big time computer enthusiast. She is pissed because she doesn't want to wait till next year for another computer. her Asus G73 is less than a yr old for gawd sakes and my m17 r3 is like 2 months old lol. So she's trying to get me to get the m18x BUT i told her...if I get the m18x, we don't have a vacation this year! But she's cool with it...not sure if I'm cool with that though

 

haha. My wife wants a Wii. She's into gaming like that, Wii sports, mario party ect. When the commercial Zelda for the Wii is on tv she uses it to try and convince me we need a Wii. She doesn't want a 360 or PS3, which I'd perfer. I wantted to try and get her into BF3, but no such luck, she won't even watch me for a few min. If I could, maybe I could spring for a Sager 7280. Now that would be sweet. On paper that system has everything I want. But to the eyes, it's not so pretty. Still though, would be sweet to sit by the wife as we flank some n00bs together in BF3

 

Vacation for me is down in the basement with my R2.
